The HLB bacteria can infect most citrus cultivars, species and hybrids and even some citrus relatives.... The juice from affected fruit is low in soluble solids, high in acids and abnormally bitter. The fruit retains its green color at the navel end when mature, which is the reason for the common name "citrus greening disease. "This fruit is of no value because of poor size and quality. There is no cure for the disease and rapid tree removal is critical for prevention of spread. 5, record 1, English, - huanglongbing

The Swiss Pine or Arolla Pine(Pinus cembra; family Pinaceae) is a species of pine tree that occurs in the Alps and Carpathian Mountains of central Europe, in Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania. It typically grows at(1, 200-) 1, 500-2, 200(-2, 300) m altitude. It often reaches the alpine tree-line in this area. The mature size is up to 25-35 m height, and 1. 5 m trunk diameter. It is a member of the white pine group, Pinus subgenus Strobus, and like all members of that group, the leaves("needles") are in fascicles(bundles) of five, with a deciduous sheath. 5, record 4, English, - Swiss%20stone%20pine

The stands of juvenile trees don’t need to be spaced the same distance that mature trees require, because there is an optimum spacing which encourages natural pruning of lower branches. Such natural pruning is a desirable energy saver for the land owner. Also, conifers have a growth habit built in, called geotrophism, which is what makes a tree grow vertically rather than just meandering crookedly up to its finished height. Using the force of geotrophism to advantage, we may just crowd our trees just enough to keep them reaching higher than a specimen tree with its bushy branching and its severly bushy habit. All this doesn’t give you a formula to work with though, so try this approach. You should thin most stands of juvenile age to intermediate age trees to about eight feet apart. Later, as the trees mature, they could be spaced even farther to as much as twelve feet apart. 2, record 6, English, - natural%20pruning

The objective of this study was to describe the different morphological gradients being used as the basis for the development of the shape of the stem system in young forest-grown 7-year-old beeches ... Three simple morphogenetic gradients explain the developmental dynamics of their overall stem system ... The third one is characterized by a gradual reduction in annual growth rate as well as of the branching angle of the lowest axes of the tree, indicating their decline and their imminent elimination by natural pruning. 3, record 6, English, - natural%20pruning

Tree foliage is available in vast quantities and is utilized very little in Canada. Keays and Barton(1975) report that for softwoods, young tree's foliage is 25% by weight of the tree bole, and older trees 10% by weight; similarly for hardwoods the young trees have foliage 15% of the bole by weight, and mature trees 5%. This, however, is just "foliage", and for utilization purposes it is more realistic to deal in terms of "commercial foliage"(leaves plus twigs, shoots and branches up to 0. 6 cm(0. 24 inches) diameter). 3, record 9, English, - commercial%20foliage
