Maxam-Gilbert sequencing(also called the chemical degradation method) uses chemical to cleave DNA at specific bases, resulting in fragments of different lengths. A refinement to the Maxam-Gilbert method known as multiplex sequencing enables investigators to analyze about 40 clones on a single DNA sequencing gel. 1, record 1, English, - multiplex%20sequencing

Specific cleavage of the DNA is central to [Maxam-Gilbert sequencing] method. Base-specific chemical cleavage [of an] end-label DNA, at one or two of the four bases involves three consecutive steps : modification of a base, removal of the modified base from its sugar, and DNA strand scission at that sugar. [The] chemical cleavage products [are separated by] electrophoresis on long-distance sequencing gels. 1, record 2, English, - base%2Dspecific%20chemical%20cleavage
