Auction of pollution rights [are] based on the principle that, since environment policy cannot be grounded on equalizing the marginal social cost of pollution with the marginal social benefit of abating pollution ..., standards of environmental quality are decided on by the government authorities. A quality standard can be defined with reference to the degree of accepted pollution corresponding to a given quantity of pollutant discharged per unit of time (for example, one year). 5, record 2, English, - ambient%20quality%20standard

Criteria for indoor noise are summarized in three sets of specifications that have been derived by collecting subjective judgments from a large sampling of people in a variety of specific situations. These have developed into the noise criteria(NC) and preferred noise criteria(PNC) curves, which provide limits on the level of noise introduced into the environment. The NC curves, developed in 1957, aim to provide a comfortable working or living environment by specifying the maximum allowable level of noise in octave bands over the entire audio spectrum. The complete set of 11 curves specifies noise criteria for a broad range of situations. The PNC curves, developed in 1971, add limits on low-frequency rumble and high-frequency hiss; hence, they are preferred over the older NC standard. 2, record 3, English, - preferred%20noise%20criteria%20curve

Bootstrapping is sometimes confused with the condition known as overboost, but bootstrapping is not a condition which is detrimental to engine life. An overboost condition is one in which manifold pressure exceeds the limits prescribed for a particular engine and can cause serious damage. There are some systems that incorporate a pressure relief valve to prevent a serious overboost condition. The pressure relief valve is generally set to open at 1. 5 inches of mercury above the maximum allowable engine manifold pressure. 2, record 4, English, - overboost

1, record 4, French, - surr%C3%A9gime
