Laser Metal Deposition(LMD) is a process which uses a laser beam to form a melt pool on a metallic substrate, into which powder is fed. The powder melts to form a deposit that is fusion bonded to the substrate. The required geometry is built up layer by layer. Both the laser and nozzle from which the powder is delivered are manipulated using a gantry system or robotic arm. 3, record 2, English, - laser%20metal%20deposition

The LiMCA II system characterizes the cleanliness of a melt at time intervals of the order of 1 minute. It therefore monitors quasi-continuously, and in real time, the evolution of cleanliness along a cast, as a function of process parameters and melt-handling practices. The impact of furnace preparation, allowing practice, feedstock mix, settling time, and similar parameters on melt cleanliness, is easily determined. The effects of routine casting practices(metal level control, turbulence in the metal distributor) are directly observed as they take place. The time at which inclusion flushing from the holder starts at the end of a cast are determined for different sets of casting parameters, enabling the metallurgist to stop the cast at the right time to minimize the need for heel removal. 1, record 6, English, - liquid%20metal%20cleanliness%20analyser

In a single-crystal blade casting the first element to solidify is a "starter block" attached to the root of the [turbine] blade by a narrow helical passage in the mould. The helical passage obstructs the growth of multiple crystal boundaries, with the result that the blade is formed from a single crystal. This crystal propagates in two halves around the strong-back. The two halves of the blade can then be joined by a process called "transient liquid phase" bonding, in which the halves are mated around a foil "gasket" of the same alloy as the blade--coated with boron to reduce its melting point--and joined under pressure. The gasket and the thin layer of metal immediately adjacent to it melt, the boron dissipates completely and the part solidifies while still under pressure. As far as can be ascertained, the join produced by this means in a single-crystal blade is effectively perfect. 1, record 13, English, - gasket

1, record 14, French, - pi%C3%A8ce%20de%20renforcement

In a single-crystal blade casting, the first element to solidify is a "starter block" attached to the root of the [turbine] blade by a narrow helical passage in the mould. 1, record 15, English, - single%2Dcrystal%20blade%20casting
