MELT SCREW EXTRUDER [3 records]

Record 1 1998-02-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
CONT

A reciprocating screw machine is shown in Figure 12-18. As the screw rotates, melted plastic is pushed forward to the end of the extruder barrel, and the pressure pushes the screw in the opposite direction. When the necessary amount of melt has collected, a hydraulic cylinder moves the screw forward, forcing plastic out of the die head to form the parison(s).

All blow-molding processes require the melting of plastic resin. The quality of this melt and the productivity of the blow-molding equipment depend heavily on extruder screw design.

Record 3 1997-11-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
CONT

The [intermittent extrusion] process has three subcategories : the reciprocating screw method, the ram accumulator method, and the accumulator head method.... The ram accumulator method, which is no longer in widespread use, is intended for heavy parts weighing 2 kg or more. Much like the reciprocating screw, the system is used to quickly extrude heavy parisons that might sag or draw down from gravity. The accumulator is a reservoir mounted alongside the extruder. A piston or plunger pushes the melt through the extrusion head. Unlike the reciprocating screw, melt that enters the reservoir first is the last to leave.

OBS

Extrusion discontinue. Dans ce type d'extrusion, la matière est plastifiée puis stockée soit dans un pot d'accumulation, soit dans une tête d'accumulation adaptée à cet effet.
