CONT

Wholly aromatic polyester fiber-reinforced high performance thermoplastic and process for preparing same. Self-reinforced polymer composites of 60-5% by weight of an at least partially crystalline high performance thermoplastic polymer and 40-95% by weight of a melt processable wholly aromatic polyester which exhibit anisotropic properties in the melt phase. This wholly aromatic polyester is a liquid crystal polymer... The wholly aromatic polyester is in the form of... unidirectionally oriented continuous fibers, primarily in the range of about 1 to 10 micrometers in diameter, distributed in a matrix of polyether etherketone. The polymer composites of this invention have high tensile strength, high modulus, satisfactory elongation, good impact strength, good flame resistance, good high temperature properties, and good electrical properties which remain stable over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.

Record 3 2007-11-19

English

Subject field(s)

CONT

The extrusion blow-molding process requires the resin to have a capability known as "melt strength. "The extruded parison must always hang in the air by its own strength until the mold can capture it for blow molding. Resins that have a relatively "sharp" melting point or that do not have melt strength, as is the case with many injection grades, are difficult to blow mold.

CONT

Melt strength(MS) is the measurement of a product's parison flow during extrusion.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matières plastiques
CONT

DEF

A mark on a moulded plastic, formed by the union of two or more streams of plastic flowing together. [Definition standardized by ISO.]

CONT

Weld lines. LCPs are very shear sensitive, so the melt front will solidify quickly in the mold during processing. This rapid solidification often results in low knit-line strength. Large knit lines should be avoided or placed in low-stress areas whenever possible.

CONT

The preform mold consists of four major components: preform cavity, injection nozzle, neckring insert, and core rod assembly.

CONT

The core rod assembly ... has four functions or features: It forms the interior of the preform. It supports the parison or the bottle during transfer. It is the valve where air enters to expand the parison. The valve is located either in the shoulder area or in the tip, the location being governed by the bottle or core rod length-to-diameter ratio. Wide mouth bottles (that is, core rods with low length-to-diameter ratios) will usually have a shoulder valve. The core rod has a "blow by" groove. This annular groove, located near the seating shank ... is needed to seal the parison and prevent excessive air loss during bottle blowing and to eliminate elastic retraction of the parison during the transfer between cavities.

CONT

Even though the parison is exposed to the air, melt strength is not as crucial because of the support provided by the parison core rod.
