A vernier caliper... consists of an L-shaped member with a scale engraved on the long shank. A sliding member is free to move on the bar and carries a jaw which matches the arm of the L. The vernier scale is engraved on a small plate that is attached to the sliding member. Perhaps the most distinct advantage of the vernier caliper, over other types of caliper, is the ability to provide very accurate measurements over a large range. The ICBL was launched in October 1992 by a group of six non-governmental organizations : Handicap International, Human Rights Watch, Medico International, Mines Advisory Group, Physicians for Human Rights and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. These founding organizations witnessed the horrendous effect of mines on the communities they were working with in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America and saw how mines hampered and even prevented their development efforts in these countries. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines(ICBL) is a global network in over 70 countries that works for a world free of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions, where landmine and cluster munition survivors can lead fulfilling lives. The Campaign was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its efforts to bring about the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Since then, we have been advocating for the words of the treaty to become a reality, demonstrating on a daily basis that civil society has the power to change the world. As a member of the Cluster Munition Coalition, the ICBL is engaged in the global effort to ban cluster munitions and to address their humanitarian impact. In December 2006, the ICBL decided to engage extensively in the global effort to prohibit cluster munitions. This marked the first time that the ICBL had become significantly engaged on an issue other than antipersonnel mines. The main reasons for the ICBL' s decision were that cluster munitions inevitably end up leaving behind large numbers of unexploded ’duds’ which behave essentially like antipersonnel mines; that many ICBL members had been already working extensively on cluster munitions; and that international efforts to achieve a global ban on cluster munitions were at a crucial point, a point where the ICBL could have a meaningful impact. 1, record 10, English, - International%20Campaign%20to%20Ban%20Landmines

1, record 10, French, - Campagne%20internationale%20pour%20interdire%20les%20mines

Usually, the phrase "public nuisance" describes a criminal or quasi-criminal offence which involves actual or potential interference with public convenience or welfare. A public nuisance must materially affect the reasonable comfort and convenience of life of a class of Her Majesty's subjects. It is not necessary to establish that every member of the public has been affected, as long as a substantial number is.... One test is to ask whether the nuisance is "so widespread in its range or indiscriminate in its effect that it is not reasonable to expect one person to take proceedings on his own responsibility to put a stop to it, but that it should be taken on the responsibility to the community at large". 2, record 16, English, - public%20nuisance

Cultivated corn or maize(Zea mays) is a member of the family Gramineae(grass family). The genus Zea contains four species, but only Z. mays has been developed so dramatically from the other members of the genus and from its wild ancestors. Because of concerted human intervention over centuries of selection and plant breeding, corn bears little ressemblance to its relatives. Much of the agronomic development of corn has focussed on the production of large, nutritious seeds(kernels) that do not shatter from the plant upon maturity. 2, record 18, English, - cultivated%20corn

These foreign banks are still participating in, for example, the Canadian dollar interbank market, but if they are based in New York, a trade with a reporting dealer in Canada would now be reported by that (Canadian) counterparty as a cross-border rather than a local interbank trade. Hence, local transactions with reporting dealers fell whereas crossborder transactions with reporting dealers increased. Similarly, if the financial institution that exited the market in Canada took some of its customer business with it, it would now be recorded out of New York (the United States survey) rather than Canada, since the basis for reporting turnover in the survey is the location of the trade. This could account for part of the decline in customer spot business in Canada. 3, record 20, English, - reporting%20dealer

1, record 20, French, - %C3%A9tablissement%20d%C3%A9clarant

In 1992-1993, a group of senior officials in Canadian federal departments created a collaborative forum called the Council on Administration. Their intent was to increase efficiency, improve service delivery, and cut costs by means of a series of initiatives called "Locally Shared Support Services"(LSSS). Because the member departments and agencies co-tenanted a large government office complex(Les Terrasses de la Chaudière(TLC) 1, located in Hull, within the National Capital Region) the founders of the Council saw potential for achieving these goals through the power of collective action... Since this innovative change process was launched in 1992, LSSS initiatives have led to the elimination of duplication; improved productivity and savings; sharing of innovative ideas, expertise and best practices; and development of models for use by other departments and agencies in the NRC and other regions... 3, record 21, English, - Locally%20Shared%20Support%20Services

Chromogranin A(CgA) is the prevalent member of the family of large acidic polypeptides which are stored in secretory granules of many endocrine cells. These proteins, termed the granins, are co-stored and co-released with specific hormones and neurotransmitters of a variety of endocrine cells. The intra-and extracellular functions of the granins are largely unknown, but cellular activities in which they may participate include :(I) prohormone functioning : the proteolytic processing of CgA to bioactive subproteins;(II) osmotic gradient regulation within the secretory organelles, and(III) protein sorting due to the initiated osmotic gradients and CgA's own ability to bind to other hormones. 2, record 31, English, - chromogranin%20A
