Foams are relatively new forms of polymer-based materials. They are light in weight and versatile, and are employed increasingly in a variety of applications that include thermal and acoustic insulation, core materials for sandwich panels, fabrication of furniture and flotation materials.... A plastic foam material consists of a gas phase dispersed in a solid plastic phase and derives its properties from both. The solid plastic component forms the matrix. The gas phase is contained in voids or cells.... The term cellular plastic, a synonym for plastic foam, is derived from the structure of the material. Foams are classified as open-cell or closed-cell. In closed-cell foams each cell(more or less spherical in shape) is completely enclosed by a thin wall or membrane of plastic, whereas in open-cell foams the individual cells are interconnected. 4, record 11, English, - cellular%20plastic

Geomembrane : The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. The term barrier is usually reserved for the cases where the geomembrane is used inside an earth mass. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as : synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because :(i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive;(ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners;(iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and(iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In addition, many users for these materials habitually designate them with trade names, which adds to the terminology confusion. Geomembranes should not be confused with other similar membranes used for such applications as single-ply roofing, floating covers and air supported roof. Also, geomembranes should not be confused with geotextiles [which are permeable by construction]. 2, record 14, English, - geomembrane

Most vinyl roofing membranes are sealed using hot air, which can be compared to welding metal. The process joins two rolls of membranes at the overlap areas(without using another dissimilar material) to create one monolithic layer that covers the entire roof. The heat-welded, permanently fused seams on vinyl roofing membrane form a watertight seal, and their peel strength can be critical to the roof system's long-term performance against wind forces. 3, record 19, English, - monolithic%20layer

ROOF technology allows old roof membrane to be renewed without removal. ROOF technology is based upon a thermochemical treatment of bitumen roof coating. With heat applied to a section of roof coating bitumen and bituminiferous mastics start melting. Imbued with own bitumen, roof coating gains improved waterproofing capabilities. Once cooled such coating becomes a tough monolithic layer, smooth and watertight. 4, record 19, English, - monolithic%20layer

Flashings are used to make watertight any roof area where the roof membrane terminates, is interrupted, or intersects an area or projection having a marked change in slope or direction... Flashings are generally divided into two categories : base flashings and counterflashings. Base flashings are, in a sense, a continuation of the membrane, turned up onto a surface that is in a different plane from the field of the roof, and installed as a separate operation. They are usually fabricated using a nonmetallic material, such as an asphalt-coated felt. Counterflashings, or cap flashings, can be of metal, coated felt, or other materials. They shield and seal the exposed edges of the base flashing. The combined use of non-metallic materials for base flashings and metal for counterflashings brings out the best in each material. Bituminous base flashing materials have the same coefficient of expansion and contraction as the roof membrane, and they work together as a unit. They are the only type of material acceptable for use in constructing base flashings. 2, record 20, English, - bituminous%20base%20flashing

The base product of the sprayed material is commonly asphalt, an asphalt-elastomer compound... or a polymer such as polyurethane. The sprayed material forms a continuous flexible film with little or no tack after curing. A similar process is possible when using phage vectors. The plaques which are formed following lysis of bacterial cells by phage will contain residual phage particles. coefficient of haze(COH)(in atmospheric chemistry) : One technique of measurement of the amount of filterable particulate matter suspended in air which has been used in the past depends upon drawing a measured sample of air(usually 1 000 linear feet) through a paper or membrane filter. A measurement is made of the intensity of light transmitted through the dust spot formed relative to that transmitted through an identical clean filter. The dirtiness of the air is reported in terms of the COH unit. This relates to the quantity of particulate material which produces an optical density, lg(I 0/I) of 0. 01 when measured by light transmission at 400 nm and relative to the transmission of an identical dust-free filter taken as 100%. Thus a filter which transmitted 50% relative to the clean filter has an absorbance of 0. 301 or 30. 1 COH units. This is not a recommended measure of filterable particulate matter since the size, colour and other properties of the aerosol and the air in which it is suspended affect the results. In these electrodes a support, containing an ionic(either cationic or anionic) species or an uncharged species, forms the ion-selective membrane which is usually interposed between two aqueous solutions. The support can either be porous(e. g. Millipore filter, glass frit, etc.) or non-porous(e. g. glass or inert polymeric material such as PVC, yielding with the ion-exchanger and the solvent a "solidified" homogeneous mixture). These electrodes exhibit a response due to the presence of the ion-exchange material in the membrane. 1, record 43, English, - non%2Dcrystalline%20electrode

Geomembranes are very low permeability membrane liners and barriers used with any geotechnical engineering based material so as to control fluid migrations in a man-made project, structure or system. The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. 1, record 49, English, - barrier

As a groundwater pollution control mechanism, the use of a liner on the bottom and sides of a landfill has been considered necessary for many years. Weather protection fabrics are usually coated or laminated on just one side(either inside or outside) with a microporous coating or membrane. The coating blocks water from penetrating through its microscopic pores, but allows easy passage of sweat vapors. It's an effective system. But Entrant SC goes it one(layer) better. This garment's new Entrant SC is coated on the inside with a microporous material and also covered on the outside by a revolutionary new, ultra-thin coating that shed water better than any known system. By keeping the honeycomb pores or the inner coating from cogging with water, the breathability of the total fabric system is improved dramatically. 1, record 56, English, - Entrant%20SC

1, record 56, French, - Entrant%20SC
