Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
Well-mixed reactors which rely on a selective membrane to separate low molecular weight products from higher molecular weight substrates. They are therefore most useful for carrying out depolymerization reactions, especially when using soluble enzymes, so as to ensure good contact with macromolecular substrates. The main disadvantages associated with the use of these reactors are the small sizes of reactor available, and concentration polarization, that is blockage of the pores in the membrane by solid, fat or colloid particles present in the substrate. 1, record 1, English, - ultrafiltration%20reactor
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Production of glucose from cellulose by enzymic methods has been investigated, and a procedure using an enzyme reactor having an ultrafiltration membrane has been reported for this purpose. Cellulose was heated at 200° C in a running porcelain pot mill for 25 min, ground to fine particles with a diameter of 50-150μ, and then suspended in water. The cellulose suspension was reacted with cellulase from Trichoderma viride in an ultrafiltration membrane reactor, and the resulting glucose syrup was continuously removed from the reactor through the membrane. 3, record 1, English, - ultrafiltration%20reactor
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Similar selective membranes have also been used in hollow-fibre reactors, which can be used in a plug-flow fashion with substrate rapidly recirculated through the reactors, but with the enzyme located inside the fibre. 1, record 1, English, - ultrafiltration%20reactor

1, record 1, French, - r%C3%A9acteur%20%C3%A0%20ultrafiltration
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 1, French, - r%C3%A9acteur%20%C3%A0%20ultrafiltration

A number of common enzyme reactor configurations exist. These simple types may be further complicated by the addition of recycle loops so as to facilitate complete conversion of substrate when high volumetric through-puts must be maintained.... As well as effects related to pH and salt concentration, specific protein-protein interaction may affect the retention of a protein. Elongation factor Tu has a throughput of 45% with a 100, 000 molecular weight cut-off membrane, but addition of factor Ts, which is known to form a complex with Tu reduced throughput to 8%. 3, record 2, English, - throughput

Since the enzyme molecule entrapped is not chemically modified, its kinetic behavior in the hollow fiber enzyme reactor could be expected to be the same as that of the free enzyme. However, with hollow fiber reactors in the first category the permeation of substrate into the membrane is often the rate-determining step.... Thus, the apparent Michaelis constant Km(app) is often larger than the Km of the free enzyme. For example, a bacterial alkaline phosphatase entrapped in the outside region of a cellulose hollow fiber had a Km(app) l 700 times larger than the Km of the free enzyme. 3, record 3, English, - hollow%20fiber

In order to increase the surface area of enzyme film per unit volume, various devices have been developed as practical equipment. For example, a spiral-type reactor.... Spirally-wound multipore biocatalytic modules have been shown to provide an excellent reactor configuration for the use of collagen-enzyme membrane systems. The spiral-wound reactor offers a number of advantages. It guides the flow through a number of organized flow channels which offer low and essentially equal hydraulic resistances. Therefore, all the fluid elements spend the same residence time in contact with the membrane unit thus ensuring good contact efficiency. The small fluid channels provide a large membrane surface area per unit reactor volume and high throughput. 3, record 4, English, - spiral%2Dtype%20reactor
