Plane of orbit : Equatorial orbit(directly above the earth's equator), Polar orbit(passes over both poles). Inclined orbits(any other orbit). 3. Tous les satellites de télécommunication (transmission de données, d'images et de sons) sont placés sur une orbite circulaire équatoriale. La raison en est simple : ainsi placés, ils peuvent facilement «arroser» différentes zones du globe et relayer des données provenant de deux points très éloignés. C'est cette localisation équatoriale qui explique l'orientation au sud d'une antenne parabolique installée depuis la France et plus globalement l'hémisphère nord.

High data rate intersatellite communications will be needed in applications such as short range links between clusters of satellites in one or adjacent orbital slots, medium range links forming a network in LEO(Low Earth Orbit) and MEO(Medium Earth Orbit) constellations, and longer links between GEO(Geostationary Orbit) satellites. This requires optical intersatellite links or satellite to ground communications links with digital data transfer at 10 Gbps at ranges of 10 000 kilometres.

OBS

Optical intersatellite links offer higher data rates than microwave alternatives. There is no requirement for spectrum approval and interference threats are minimal with laser communications.

Reflector antennas are generally used to produce narrow beams for geostationary satellites and earth stations.... Phased array antennas are used on many LEO and MEO satellites. New technologies include large, unfurlable antennas for producing small spot beams from geostationary orbit and shaped reflectors for creating a shaped beam with only a single feed.

La seule antenne que nous connaissons à très large champ de vision et ayant un fonctionnement simultanément à l'émission et à la réception, est l'antenne à réflecteur conformé illuminé par des cornets [...] L'antenne sera constituée d'un réflecteur conformé. Il sera alimenté par un réseau pratiquement mono dimensionnel réparti le long d'une ligne focale. L'utilisation d'éléments imprimés à la place des cornets permettra de gérer de manière intelligente le dépointage et améliorera le niveau de recouvrement entre faisceaux.
