MESOSCALE SHEAR [6 records]

Record 1 2012-12-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
CONT

A second type of subtropical cyclone is a mesoscale low originating in or near a frontolyzing zone of horizontal wind shear, with [a] radius of maximum sustained winds generally less than 30 miles.

Record 2 2012-12-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
CONT

A second type of subtropical cyclone is a mesoscale low originating in or near a frontolyzing zone of horizontal wind shear, with radius of maximum sustained winds generally less than 30 miles. The entire circulation may initially have a diameter of less than 100 miles. These generally short-lived systems may be either cold core or warm core.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
CONT

Record 6 1986-06-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Transport
CONT

The mesoscale shear are the most significant and dangerous with respect to aircraft safety, although they were not actually identified as such until 71. Mesoscale shears can extend from 1 to 5 km in diameter, typically lasting from 5 10 20 minutes. Within the mesoscale, there are two classes of wind shears; microburst and macrobursts.

Domaine(s)
  • Transport aérien
CONT
