Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
An area of the stratospheric ozone about 12 to 30 miles in altitude where the intensity of short wavelength ultraviolet light from the sun is high enough to convert normal oxygen (O2) to ozone (O3). 4, record 1, English, - ozonosphere
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The distribution of various physicochemical processes is another criterion [used for denoting the various shells of the atmosphere]. The ozonosphere, lying roughly between 10 and 50 kilometers, is the general region of the upper atmosphere in which there is an appreciable ozone concentration and in which ozone plays an important part in the radiative balance of the atmosphere; the ionosphere, starting at about 70 or 80 kilometers, is the region in which ionization of one or more of the atmospheric constituents is significant; the neutrosphere is the shell below this which is, by contrast, relatively unionized; and the chemosphere, with no very definite height limits, is the region in which photochemical reactions take place. 5, record 1, English, - ozonosphere
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
... the atmosphere consists of several layers. The layers differ in such physical properties as pressure and the types of gasses. The layer of the atmosphere closest to Earth is called the TROPOSPHERE.... The layer above the troposphere is called the STRATOSPHERE. The OZONE LAYER is the part of the stratosphere where absorption of ultraviolet rays occurs. The layer above the stratosphere is called the MESOSPHERE. The THERMOSPHERE lies above the mesosphere. The ionized gases form a layer within the thermosphere called the IONOSPHERE. The outermost part of Earth's atmosphere extends from about 480 km out to 960 km. This part is called the EXOSPHERE. 6, record 1, English, - ozonosphere

3, record 1, French, - ozonosph%C3%A8re

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The stratosphere is characterized by constant or increasing temperatures with increasing height and marked vertical stability. It owes its existence to heating of ozone by solar ultraviolet radiation, and its temperature varies from 85°C or less near the tropical tropopause to roughly 0°C at the stratopause. While the major constituents of the stratosphere are molecular nitrogen and oxygen, just as in the troposphere, the stratosphere contains a number of minor chemical species that result from photochemical reactions in the intense ultraviolet radiation environment. Chief among these is ozone, the presence of which shelters the underlying atmosphere and the earth’s surface from exposure to potentially dangerous ultraviolet radiation. 2, record 2, English, - stratosphere

The Atmospheric Trace Molecule Spectroscopy(ATMOS) Experiment is designed to make global measurements of the composition of the troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere. The spectrometer simultaneously measures the concentrations of gases that are involved in the complex chemical and radiative interactions occurring at altitudes between 10 and 150 km(6 to 93 mi). With the instrument's ability to detect these trace gases in concentrations of lower than 1 part per billion, its data are used to make critical tests of theroretical models that describe the physics and chemistry of the stratosphere. 2, record 19, English, - atmospheric%20trace%20molecule%20spectroscopy

GOMOS is an atmospheric sensor to be flown on the European satellite ENVISAT(Environmental Satellite) in 2002 as a joint project of Finland and France. The main scientific objective is to monitor ozone and ozone trends in the stratosphere and mesosphere. This task is achieved by measuring stellar spectra in the ultraviolet to near infrared range while stars are being eclipsed by the Earth. 2, record 20, English, - Global%20Ozone%20Monitoring%20by%20Occultation%20of%20Stars

Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes(PMSE) can be efficient tracers of meso-spheric dynamics. We present an event where a gravity wave oscillation, detected in PMSE, increases in amplitude and breaks into turbulence. Since this is a very non-stationary event, the standard spectrum analysis is not suitable to investigate the wave parameters, the wave steepening and its final breaking into turbulence. 2, record 21, English, - gravity%20wave%20oscillation
