Science has also developed a process known as "electrodeposition" or more specifically known as "electroplating" whereby a coating of one or more different metals may be separately or simultaneously deposited upon another pure metal or alloy commonly known as the base metal. During this process there are no profound or important changes in the physical or chemical characteristics of the constitutent metals, except possibly at the immediate interfacing. This process has not resulted in a new class of metals but has produced a product well known and familiar to industry and the arts as "electroplated metals. Flashings are used to make watertight any roof area where the roof membrane terminates, is interrupted, or intersects an area or projection having a marked change in slope or direction... Flashings are generally divided into two categories :base flashings and counterflashings. Base flashings are, in a sense, a continuation of the membrane, turned up onto a surface that is in a different plane from the field of the roof, and installed as a separate operation. They are usually fabricated using a nonmetallic material, such as an asphalt-coated felt. Counterflashings, or cap flashings, can be of metal, coated felt, or other materials. They shield and seal the exposed edges of the base flashing. The combined use of non-metallic materials for base flashings and metal for counterflashings brings out the best in each material. Bituminous base flashing materials have the same coefficient of expansion and contraction as the roof membrane, and they work together as a unit. They are the only type of material acceptable for use in constructing base flashings. 2, record 27, English, - bituminous%20base%20flashing

3, record 27, French, - solin%20de%20base%20bitumineux

Skylights, chimneys, and roof hatches. Rectangular penetrations can be handled with sheet metal flashings in some cases, and with "preformed" curb flashings in others... The base flashing is rigidly connected to the roof panel with washered screws... The upslope side of a rectangular penetration is a bit more difficult. The panel itself must end a sufficient distance from the penetration to allow room for a cricket, of diverter, to direct the flow of water around the penetration. This cricket flashing must be inserted beneath the upslope panel and sealed to it with butyl tape. 3, record 46, English, - cricket%20flashing

Cricket flashing. A cricket is a small, sloped structure made of metal and designed to drain moisture away from a chimney. It is usually placed at the back of a chimney. It is important that this structure be weather tight. It is best inspected from close proximity on the roof when possible. 4, record 46, English, - cricket%20flashing

Solid tires. Introduced in 1881 on the wheels of hansom cabs in London and formerly used for many types of road vehicles, solid tires disappeared from highways, mostly because of legislation that discouraged their use because they were hard on roads. Large sizes were supplanted by large pneumatic tires(truck and bus casings), but small solid tires came to be used extensively on industrial trucks and tractors. Some of these are made with metal base bands to which the rubber(and in some cases, rubbery polyurethane compositions) is firmly attached. These bands are the full width of the base of the tire and are often dovetailed to secure firm anchorage of a hard-rubber constituting the main portion of the tire. 1, record 50, English, - solid%20tire

Sangster(1976) has divided carbonate-hosted base metal deposits into two major types :(1) Mississippi Valley, and(2) Alpine. Other workers do not make this distinction and refer to all low temperature carbonate-hosted deposits as being of Mississippi Valley-type. Sangster contends that the first type, which are strata-bound, were emplaced after lithification of the host rocks and were largely controlled by pre-ore structures, whilst he considers the Alpine-type to be stratiform and syndsedimentary.... However, because this distinction is made by some workers on a global basis, the author has avoided using the term Mississippi Valley-type for all carbonate-hosted base metal deposits. 5, record 57, English, - Mississippi%20Valley%2Dtype%20deposit

Copper is the most important metal found in these deposits and silver and cobalt are the most important byproduct or, in a few localities, coproduct metals. 1, record 66, English, - Kupferschiefer%2Dtype%20deposit

There appears to be a possible gradation in type and environment from deposits such as the Kupferschiefer, which are dominantly composed of normal sedimentary material and which occur in a non-volcanic sedimentary environment, through deposits such as Sullivan, which are richer in sulphur and may have some minor volcanic formations in their host succession, to the volcanic massive sulphide deposits which are mainly composed of sulphides and occur in host rocks dominated by volcanics. 2, record 66, English, - Kupferschiefer%2Dtype%20deposit

Register forms are merely continuous strip forms which are contained inside a box made especially for use with the forms. The forms are accordion folded into "packs" and these packs are put in the register box with the first form to be written upon threaded up and over a metal plate which serves as a writing base or platform.(...) After the form is written upon, it is ejected from a slot in the top end of the box and the next form is automatically pulled into position for the next writing. The movement of the form up and out of the box may be done manually with a crank on the side of the register or with a finger lever on the top of the box or it may be done electrically. One of the principal features of the register is that after the form has been written upon, one copy is automatically guided into a container built into the bottom of the register. 1, record 81, English, - register

3, record 81, French, - enregistreuse

A pneumatic rate-of-rise spot detector consists of a small dome-shaped air chamber with a flexible metal diaphragm in the base. A small metering hole allows air to enter and exit the chamber during normal rise and fall of atmospheric temperature and barometric pressure. In the heat of a fire, however, the air within the chamber expands faster than it can escape through the metering hole. This expansion causes the pressure within the chamber to increase, forcing the metal diaphragm against contact points in the alarm circuit. An alarm signal to the system control unit results. This type of detector is most often combined in one unit that also has fixed-temperature capability. 1, record 87, English, - pneumatic%20rate%2Dof%2Drise%20spot%20detector

1, record 87, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20ponctuel%20thermov%C3%A9locim%C3%A9trique%20pneumatique

In the "combined washer", a horizontal worm is supported in a tank with its axis about at water level. The wheat is fed into the rising side of the worm so that the worm keeps the wheat suspended(while stones or metal pieces sink and are separated) and leads it to the base of a vertical whizzer. In this the wheat is first strongly agitated with water, then freed from surplus water by being flung against a cylindrical perforated cover while being propelled upward. 1, record 93, English, - combined%20washer

G. Cotter Enterprises, Inc. has made tremendous advancements toward a finely tuned microwelding process. Microwelding originated with the mold makers needs in mind. [Since it is an] ultra sensitive method of welding, this skill is now applied to medical parts, electronic components, sensitive finished machined surfaces, polished surfaces, and any surfaces that would not lend themselves to conventional welding. The science behind microwelding is due to the tighter control of the arc in close spaces. The less heat added to the part, the least amount of distortion will result. Minimal sink(sink marks on the material surface due to melting into the base metal) is maintained through this process. Ultimately, precision microwelds lead to less rework, which in turn assist in lower cost for machining. In fact, many microwelds can be finished by hand. 1, record 99, English, - microwelding
