METAL CLOSURE [21 records]

Record 1 2013-04-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Metal Forming
  • Packaging in Metal
CONT

Substantially all metal can bodies used in the food and beverage industry are flanged at the end portion of the cylindrical can body in preparation for seaming an end closure panel to the can body. Common techniques for flanging container body ends include die flanging and roll flanging. Die flanging requires that the container body be forced over a single large flanging die that simultaneously flanges the entire circumference of the container edge.

Rake and headwall flashing. A two-piece sheet metal flashing should be used at rakes. To seal along a headwall above a shed roof, add rubber closures to seal the void at the end of each rib. Make sure the bottom leg of the two-piece flashing extends well over the rubber closure to protect it from sunlight.

CONT

PigSpout: A sheet metal flashing designed to direct the flow of water out through the face of the gutter rather than through a downspout

CONT

CONT

The roll-on closure is used in the food, carbonated beverage, and pharmaceutical markets where pressure sealing is required ... A widely used version today is the tamper-evident roll-on [closure]. A tear band perforated along the bottom of the closure skirt is tucked under a locking ring during capping by a special roller. When opened by the consumer, the band separates from the closure to provide visible evidence of tampering.

OBS

roll-on cap : A type of closure made usually of metal, for application to threads on the outside surface of the neck of glass containers. Supplied as an unthreaded cap that is placed over the sealing area of the container. Then, under controlled top-pressure, the skirt is pressed against the threads by a rotating head equipped with rollers that press the metal with sufficient force to make it conform to the finish on the container, thus forming threads on the cap or closure.

OBS

Although the terms "closure" and "cap" may be seen as different when standing alone, we think they should be recognized as synonyms when properly qualified.

OBS

OBS

There is no precise equivalent that could be found for the translation of "capsule de surbouchage" or "cape de surbouchage". However, besides "secondary closure", the English terms "cap", "capsule" (Great Britain), or "closure" used singly or together with qualifiers (e.g. polyethylene closure, tinned lead capsule, etc.) are most often employed when referring to this concept.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF

Tamper-Evident Closures. Tamper-evident caps have been in use for years, though earlier they were referred to as "pilferproof caps". Today these metal and plastic caps provide visible evidence of seal disruption and are used for over-the-counter(OTC) drugs, beverages, and food products. The two kinds of TE closures are "breakaway" or "tear band" closures used for pressurized and general sealing applications, and TE vacuum designs for vacuum sealing applications. The closure user can also fulfill tamper-evident requirements through the use of innerseals....

OBS

Common industry usage substitutes the term "tamper-evident" for the term "tamper-resistant" .... The FDA has not objected to this substitution, nor has it made any official recognition of it as a synonymous term ... [It] seems likely that use of both terms will continue for some time. All the practitioners and the FDA are agreed that the term "tamper-proof" is not appropriate and must not be used.
