Science has also developed a process known as "electrodeposition" or more specifically known as "electroplating" whereby a coating of one or more different metals may be separately or simultaneously deposited upon another pure metal or alloy commonly known as the base metal. During this process there are no profound or important changes in the physical or chemical characteristics of the constitutent metals, except possibly at the immediate interfacing. This process has not resulted in a new class of metals but has produced a product well known and familiar to industry and the arts as "electroplated metals. 3, record 11, French, - film%20m%C3%A9tallis%C3%A9

Inductively coupled electrodeless system : An induction coil is powered by a frequency generator. The induced current causes acceleration of charged particles inside the lamp bulb. The metal vapour atoms are excited and ionized causing the release of ultra-violet energy. The UV [ultra-violet] energy causes the phosphor coating on the lamp wall to glow, creating white light. 2, record 13, English, - inductively%20coupled%20electrodeless%20system

Tin Plate. ... When coated by the hot-dip process, the tin plate was termed coke tin plate or charcoal tin plate. When coated by the electrolytic process, it is termed electrolytic tin plate. ... Hot-Dipped Tin Plate. Tin plate formerly was produced by the hot-dip tinning of thin plates that had been hammered or rolled from bars of puddled iron. The pig iron used in pudding might have been made in blast furnaces using charcoal or coke as fuel. Plates made from "charcoal iron" were considered a more ductile and higher grade product; hence, tin plate made by coating charcoal-iron plates with tin (charcoal tin plate) was regarded as a product of higher quality than tin plate with a coke-iron base (coke tin plate). At present, the designation "charcoal tin plate" merely indicates plate with a relatively heavy tin coating as compared with "coke tin plate" as described below, and has no significance so far as quality of the steel base is concerned. 2, record 58, English, - charcoal%20plate

Coating weights : Pure tin coating on a hot-dip tin plate is mechanically distributed over sheet surface by tinning rolls. Due to nature of this tinning operation and elevated temperature of metal it is not possible to control, within close limits, tin coating weight. For these and other reasons, coating is measured and described by "tin pot yield" method. Total weight(in pounds) of tin consumed in manufacture of one base box, is pot yield. Terms, charcoal plate and coke plate, which in last century described quality of iron used as a base metal, have now come to be applied to tin plate of certain coating thickness. Surfacing is a term used to describe processes of depositing metal on surfaces of tools and machine parts in order to increase their dimensional sizes or to obtain some specific mechanical property.... The two main categories of surfacing are known as hardfacing and metallizing. Hardfacing is a fusion technique and includes processes which are designed to produce hard, tough overlays to resist severe abrasion, corrosion, and impact loads. Metallizing is a spray coating procedure where finely divided particles of metal are deposited on surfaces where metal has worn away or where it is necessary to build up certain contours. Hardfacing is actually a fusion weld process in which a special hardfacing rod, wire, or electrode is intermixed with the base metal. 1, record 64, English, - hardfacing

Niépce used pewter plates in his lithography business, and used various light-sensitive varnishes and pitches as a coating on the metal to record the image. His first success, 1826-27 was with bitumen of Judea coated on a pewter plate. It took 8 hours of exposure to differentially harden the coating, which was washed in oil of lavender diluted with white petroleum. The exposed areas were hardened and did not dissolve; unexposed areas remained soluble and were removed. 6, record 71, English, - bitumen%20of%20Judea

Additive and subtractive plates. Development of presensitized plates after exposure to light depends on whether the plate is of the additive or subtractive type. Development of additive plates utilizes a developer solution that contains a lacquer and a desensitizer. As the solution dissolves the non-image area coating, the lacquer adheres to the stencil, making it ink receptive, and the desensitizer prevents the base metal in the non-printing areas from becoming sensitive to ink. Often, gum arabic is applied to form a protective barrier that prevents contamination of the non-image areas before the plate is put on press. 3, record 89, English, - additive%20plate
