Anodic stripping voltammetry is a method to demonstrate the presence of multiple metals in water. This method is usually applied to investigate the water quality of surface or drinking water or sewage. 3, record 1, English, - anodic%20stripping%20voltammetry
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Anodic stripping voltammetry(ASV) is the most common of a class of techniques known as stripping electroanalytical methods(SEAM). The defining characteristic of these methods is the preconcentration of analyte at the electrode surface in order to lower the detection limit for that analyte.... Usually a mercury drop or mercury thin-film electrode is employed under forced convective conditions(stirred solution). The preconcentration step is followed by a short time period in which the solution is allowed to quiet(no stirring), following which a potential scan is initiated from the deposition potential in the anodic direction. ASV is well-suited for the determination of trace amounts of many metal contaminants. “Stripping” refers to the characteristic sharp voltammetric waves that occur for metals as they are oxidized out of mercury, in which many metals form amalgams. 2, record 1, English, - anodic%20stripping%20voltammetry

... the scanning ion-conductance microscope(SICM)... scans a sample not with a metal or diamond tip but with a glass micropipette containing a tiny electrode. The workers immerse the sample and the pipette in a bath of electrolyte(such as a salt solution) and establish a voltage difference between the electrode within the pipette and another electrode in the bath. A current of ions tends to flow between the electrodes by way of the pipette opening, but when the pipette approaches the surface of the sample, the current weakens. It disappears altogether when the scanned pipette touches the sample, which blocks the opening. Equipped with a feedback mechanism that maintains a constant ion current through the pipette opening, the SICM can profile a sample's topography. The fineness of the pipette does limit the SICM's resolution to about. 2 micron(10 nanometers may eventually be feasible). 3, record 6, English, - scanning%20ion%2Dconductance%20microscope

The device is therefore best suited to more specialized functions - studying a living cell’s electrical behavior, for example. When a cell is stimulated, so-called ion channels in its membrane open and close, allowing tiny currents of ions to pass. Hansma hopes to detect individual ion channels and study their behavior once the SICM’s resolution has been improved. 3, record 6, English, - scanning%20ion%2Dconductance%20microscope

Electrolysis is the process by which ionic substances are broken down into simpler substances using electricity. During electrolysis, metals and gases may form at the electrodes. …To understand electrolysis, you need to know what an ionic substance is. Ionic substances form when a metal reacts with a non-metal. They contain charged particles called ions. For example, sodium chloride forms when sodium reacts with chlorine. It contains positively charged sodium ions and negatively charged chloride ions. Ionic substances can be broken down by electricity. … For electrolysis to work, the ions must be free to move. Ions are free to move when an ionic substance is dissolved in water or molten(melted). For example, if electricity is passed through copper chloride solution, the copper chloride is broken down to form copper metal and chlorine gas. … Here is what happens during electrolysis : Positively charged ions move to the negative electrode during electrolysis. They receive electrons and are reduced. Negatively charged ions move to the positive electrode during electrolysis. They lose electrons and are oxidised. … So the electrolysis of copper chloride solution produces copper at the negative electrode. But the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution produces hydrogen. 2, record 8, English, - copper%2Dchloride%20electrolysis

2, record 12, French, - transfert%20par%20court%2Dcircuit

Carbon monoxide evolution from electrode. According to this theory of metal movement in the welding arc, carbon monoxide is evolved within the molten metal at the electrode tip, causing miniature explosions which expel molten metal away from the electrode and toward the work. This theory is substantiated by the fact that bare wire electrodes made of high purity iron or "killed steel"(i. e., steel that has been almost completely deoxidized in casting) cannot be used successfully in the overhead position. The metal transfer from electrode to the work, the spatter, and the carter formation are, in this theory, caused by the decarburizing action in molten steel. 3, record 14, English, - metal%20transfer

A self-powered neutron detector has a neutron-sensitive emitter, a collector enclosing this emitter and insulation between these two components. When irradiated by neutrons, the emitter generates Compton electrons so that a current is produced between the emitter and electrode and which may be used with a current-measuring device to provide a readout. The emitter is enclosed and electrically connected with a metal which is substantially neutron-insensitive so that the detector provides a substantially true and prompt signal accurately reflecting the neutron flux density received by the detector. 1, record 32, English, - shielded%2Demitter%20neutron%20detector

The technique of extracting a metal from its soluble salt by an electrolytic cell. It is used in recovery of zinc, cobalt, chromium, and manganese, and has recently been applied to copper when in the form of a silicate ore. For any specific metal, the salt in solution is subjected to electrolysis and is electrodeposited on a cathode made of the metal being extracted. 4, record 34, English, - electrowinning

Electrowinning(winning or recovering the metal by an electrolytic process) can be carried out on the molten metal or compound, or on a solution of a compound of the metal. In the first process a raw ore is fused(melted) or converted into an easily fusible compound, and the resulting current-conducting solution(electrolyte) is electrolyzed(decomposed by an electric current), producing a relatively pure metallic deposit on one electrode. The second process involves leaching the raw ore... with an aqueous solution; the resulting solution, or electrolyte, rich in the metal, then is recovered and electrolyzed, again producing a relatively pure metal deposit on one electrode. 5, record 34, English, - electrowinning

Several chemical definitions relate to welding. One is known as burning or oxidation. This takes place when any substance combines with oxygen usually at high temperatures. An example of this is the combining of acetylene with oxygen. This produces carbon dioxide plus water plus a large amount of heat. We use the heat produced by the burning of acetylene in the flame of the oxyacetylene torch to make welds. 3, record 41, English, - metal%20burning

Extrusion(or fusion) welding is used exclusively on HDPE [high density polyethylene]. The ISFET(Ion Sensitive Field Effect Transistor) methodoly for ion measurements is developed on the basis of the MOSFET(Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor). The first attempts to use the ISFET as pH sensor were made already in 1970. The basic principle underlying the MOSFET is the control of a current flowing between two semiconductor electrodes. Drain and source are placed on the same element, with a third electrode, the gate, between them. 3, record 43, English, - ion%2Dsensitive%20field%20effect%20transistor

Surfacing is a term used to describe processes of depositing metal on surfaces of tools and machine parts in order to increase their dimensional sizes or to obtain some specific mechanical property.... The two main categories of surfacing are known as hardfacing and metallizing. Hardfacing is a fusion technique and includes processes which are designed to produce hard, tough overlays to resist severe abrasion, corrosion, and impact loads. Metallizing is a spray coating procedure where finely divided particles of metal are deposited on surfaces where metal has worn away or where it is necessary to build up certain contours. Hardfacing is actually a fusion weld process in which a special hardfacing rod, wire, or electrode is intermixed with the base metal. 1, record 58, English, - hardfacing

Extrusion(or fusion) welding is used exclusively on high density polyethylene. It is a direct parallel of metallurgical welding in that a ribbon of molten polymer(instead of metal) is extruded between the two surfaces to be joined. ... the electrorheological effect lies in a phenomenon termed electrical polarizability. In an electric field-between, say, a pair of charged metal plates-the positively charged protons inside a particle will be attracted toward one electrode while the negatively charged electrons will be attracted toward the opposite electrode. The result is that the positive and negative charges shift somewhat inside the particle, each in an opposite direction. A particle in an electric field thus becomes an electric dipole, whose positive and negative poles are analogous to a magnet's north and south poles. The strength of this effect varies according to the electrical polarizability of the substance. In order to avoid any confusion concerning the sign of electrode potentials, the words "noble" and "base" are often preferred because they are unambiguous. For practical electroplating purposes, "noble metal" is often used as a synonym for "precious metal". In general, a nobler metal provides a better resistance to corrosion and chemical attack than a less noble metal. Nevertheless, it is frequently impossible-owing to several intervening effects, such as the formation of surface oxide layers-to predict the behaviour of a metal against corrosion on the strength of electrode potential alone. 1, record 64, English, - noble%20metal

1, record 64, French, - m%C3%A9tal%20noble
Record number: 64, Textual support number: 2 OBS
1, record 64, French, - m%C3%A9tal%20noble
