Radiators, convectors, and baseboard and finned tube units are types of heat-distributing devices commonly used in steam and low temperature water heating systems.... In general, these types of heat-distributing units should be placed at the points of greatest heat loss of the space.... For example, such units are commonly located under windows, along exposed walls, and at door openings.... The term "baseboard"... refers to heat-distributing units designed for installation along the bottom of walls, in place of the conventional baseboard. They may be made of cast-iron, with a substantial portion of the front face directly exposed to the room, or with a finned tube element in a sheet metal enclosure. They operate with gravity-circulated room air.... Baseboard heat-distributing units are divided into two types : radiant-convector and finned tube. 5, record 8, English, - baseboard%20heater

The salts of hydrochloric acid, known as chlorides, can, in most cases, be prepared by dissolving either the metal, its hydroxide, oxide, or carbonate in the acid; or by heating the metal in a current of chlorine, or by precipitation. The majority of the metallic chlorides are solids(stannic chloride, titanic chloride and antimony pentachloride are liquids) which readily volatilize on heating. Many are readily soluble in water, the chief exceptions being silver, chloride, mercurous chloride, cuprous chloride and palladious chloride which are insoluble in water, and thallous chloride and lead chloride which are only slightly soluble in cold water, but are readily soluble in hot water. 3, record 42, English, - metallic%20chloride

Chlorine induced corrosion is the most important corrosion process in power plants, firing waste, coal and/or biomass. Depending on the process, chlorine is present as HCl gas, as solid KCl and NaCl in ashes or as eutectic melts i.e. KCl-ZnCl2 in deposits of waste fired boilers. In the presence of HCl gas and solid chlorides, "active oxidation" is generally accepted as the major corrosion mechanism. Metal chlorides are formed by inward diffusion of chlorine to the metal/oxide interface, evaporating and subsequently oxidized to non-protective oxides and additional chlorine. 4, record 42, English, - metallic%20chloride

High tunnels are not conventional greenhouses. But like plastic-covered greenhouses, they are generally quonset-shaped, constructed of metal bows that are attached to metal posts which have been driven into the ground about two feet deep. They are covered with one layer of 6-mil greenhouse-grade polyethylene, and are ventilated by manually rolling up the sides each morning and rolling them down in early evening. There is no permanent heating system although it is advisable to have a standby portable propane unit to protect against unexpected below-freezing temperatures. There are no electrical connections. The only external connection is a water supply for trickle irrigation. The ends of the tunnels are framed in, and may be made portable(removable) to facilitate easy access into the tunnel with a small tractor and tiller. 5, record 50, English, - high%20tunnel

Even though electric heating is not new, forced air electric furnaces have been available in large quantities for only a few years. Electric furnaces, although similar in appearance to gas furnaces, are quite different. They do not require gas piping or venting. They do, however, require that high capacity electric circuits be installed to the furnace. Electric furnaces are more flexible than gas furnaces because there is no specific position in which to install them. The only requirement is that all components be accessible for installation and service. 2, record 51, English, - electric%20furnace

3, record 51, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20%C3%A9lectrique%20d%27air%20chaud

Replacing a tap washer. Given that up to 50% of an electricity bill may be attributable to water heating, it is important to ensure that your hot water taps don’t drip... A leaky tap usually occurs because the internal seal is worn out. Each time you turn the tap off, the soft flexible washer, which is made from rubber or a synthetic substitute, presses against the metal washer seat, wearing a tiny part of itself away. Eventually it becomes thin and irregular in shape. This allows water to seep past and creates the annoying drip. If you don’t replace it but continue to screw the tap down tighter and tighter, eventually you will get metal forcing you to call in a plumber to regrid the washer seating. That can be an expensive business! 3, record 62, English, - tap%20washer

5, record 76, French, - chaudi%C3%A8re%20%C3%A0%20gaz

A method of blasting coal has been undercut, topcut, or sheared. Into one end of a seamless high-grade Mo-steel cylinder 2 to 3 inches in diameter and from 36 inches to 60 inches long is put a cartridge containing a mixture of potassium perchlorate and charcoal with an electric match. The other end is sealed by a metal disc weaker than the shell and held in place by a cap which has holes at about 45° to the axis of the cylinder. The cylinder is filled with liquid carbon dioxide at a pressure of 1, 000 pounds per square inch and inserted in the borehole with the cap holes pointing outward. The heating mixture is lit and raises the gas pressure so that the disc is sheared; the carbon dioxide escaping through the angular holes tends to hold the cylinder in place, break and push the coal forward. 1, record 78, English, - carbon%20dioxide%20blasting

1, record 78, French, - abatage%20au%20gaz%20carbonique
