METAPHASE CHROMOSOME [8 records]

Record 1 2017-02-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Molecular Biology
  • Biochemistry
DEF

One of the two filaments joined at the centromere that make up a chromosome, as visualized during metaphase.

OBS

[The filaments] separate into daughter filaments during anaphase, going to opposite poles of the dividing cell.

DEF

Record 2 2013-02-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

The pattern transverse bands seen on eukaryotic metaphase chromosome after treatment with fluorescent stains.

OBS

The banding pattern of a particular chromosome is highly specific and constant and is used to distinguish similar sized chromosomes in the karyotype. Banding patterns are used in gene mapping, and to detect chromosome aberrations such as partial duplication. Typical stains used are Giemsa (G-banding) and Quinacrine (Q-banding). The bands on each chromosome are numbered according to a standard nomenclature.

DEF

DEF

The thin, threadlike form of an uncoiled chromosome seen in interphase, early prophase, and late telophase, as opposed to the tightly coiled metaphase chromosome.

Record 4 2012-01-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Molecular Biology
DEF

A smaller nucleus located close to and lying partly within a depression on the oral side of the macronucleus.

CONT

A micronucleus(MN) is formed during the metaphase/anaphase transition of mitosis(cell division). It may arise from a whole lagging chromosome(aneugenic event leading to chromosome loss) or an acentric chromosome fragment detaching from a chromosome after breakage(clastogenic event) which do not integrate in the daughter nuclei.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie moléculaire
DEF

Record 5 2004-02-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Cancers and Oncology
DEF

An aberrant chromosome observed in metaphase figures from bone marrow cells of patients suffering from chronic myologenous leukemia.

OBS

The Philadelphia chromosome is a translocation in which approximately one half of the longarm of chromosome 22 is moved to a terminal position on another chromosome. About 90% of the time the longarm of chromosome 9 is the recipient.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
  • Cancers et oncologie
DEF

DEF

The particular chromosome complement of an individual as defined by the number, size, and centromere position of the chromosomes, usually in mitotic metaphase.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 7 1999-02-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

A chromosome having its centromere localized in a roughly median position(lengthwise). This gives them a V or J shaped appearance at metaphase.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Record 8 1996-10-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

A chromosome at metaphase, when it is maximally contracted and easiest to use for chromosome identification.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
OBS
