METEOROLOGICAL FLOOD [5 records]

Record 1 2022-09-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorological Forecasting, Data Measurement and Analysis
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
CONT

[The] projects involved the design and implementation of tasks related to meteorological and hydrologic forecasting technologies. [The] hydrometeorological projects involve design and installation of hydrometeorological monitoring networks, data management systems, data communications systems; application of meteorological forecast models; design and installation of flood early warning systems; determination of precipitation estimates using remote(radar and satellite) sensors and warning communications.

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
CONT

For meteorological flood and drought, which are caused by precipitation and consider the general characteristics of soil and land surface(i. e., the general decay effect of the runoff, evapotranspiration, and percolation), an identical parameter can be used for different locations.

Record 3 2011-05-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
DEF

A flood due to meteorological conditions of exceptional rarity, and due either to catastrophical rainfall spread over a period considerably longer than the time of concentration for the area, or to violent rain of the cloud burst type.

OBS

Catastrophic floods [have a] return period of a hundred years or more.

French

Domaine(s)

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Cartography
  • Spacecraft
  • Remote Sensing
CONT

NOAA AHVRR allows for a family of satellites upon which flood monitoring and mapping can almost always be done in near real time. Currently, multi channel and multi sensor data sources from GOES and POES satellites have been used for meteorological evaluation, interpretation, validation, and assimilation(into Numerical Weather Prediction Models) to assess hydrological and hydro geological risks(Barrett, 1996).

CONT
