CONT

An impulse characteristic is included in some sound level meters. It responds rapidly to increasing levels and slowly to decreasing levels. It gives a higher level reading for impulse-type sounds than will an ordinary sound level meter using fast or slow time averaging. However, if all three are used to measure a noise which does not vary in level, the same reading will be obtained. The impulse characteristic is sometimes used for measuring the noise of punch presses, gun shots, and similar sources of impulsive sounds.

Recherches par mesure de l'intensité du signal. Dans cette méthode, le signal du radiophare est mesuré au moyen de l'indicateur d'intensité de signal du récepteur. On détermine le long de la trajectoire initiale de l'aéronef de recherches qui pénètre dans la zone deux positions pour lesquelles l'indication est la même, ainsi que le milieu du segment qui les joint. (Ce point coïncidera avec le point d'intensité maximale du signal, si celui-ci pouvait être déterminé de façon précise.) Le pilote fait alors demi-tour et lorsqu'il atteint le milieu du segment, il vire à angle droit vers la gauche ou la droite. Si le signal s'évanouit, cela signifie de toute évidence que le pilote se dirige dans la mauvaise direction; il fait alors demi-tour. Deux autres points de même intensité de signal sont alors déterminés sur cette nouvelle trajectoire. (Cette fois-ci le point pour lequel l'intensité relevée est maximale, s'il est déterminé de manière précise, est également l'emplacement du radiophare.) Après avoir passé le deuxième point (de même intensité de signal), le pilote fait demi-tour et descend à l'altitude appropriée. Il s'est révélé que cette méthode de recherches, si elle est appliquée avec soin, est très précise et peut éviter toutes recherches ultérieures.

Reading the light metering through the camera lens with the aperture set at the position that it’ll be at when the photo is taken.

Fortunately, you can still meter using the stopped-down metering approach on most cameras. By pressing a depth-of-field button, the camera is placed into stopped-down metering mode too. The lens is stopped down to the taking aperture automatically on some adapters. On T-mount and other purely mechanical mounts, you may have to turn the aperture ring to the desired taking aperture. In either case, the camera is now metering at the actual stopped down aperture. You can set the shutter speed and aperture as desired, based on your meter reading.

The incident light reading is technically more accurate than reflected light reading because it involves measurement of the brightness of the illuminating source, regardless of the subject. A reflected light reading is taken from camera position, but an incident light reading involves aiming the meter, fitted with an incident light adapter, toward the light source from subject position. On this basis, subjects reproduce as dark or light in the picture according to their natural reflectivity.

This method is best for color reversal work or the photography of very dark or light subjects.

The Water Department utilizes an electronic outside reading device to conveniently read water meters, without the need to interrupt residents or enter their homes. The outside reading device(ARB) is a small black rectangular box that is attached to a certain location on the exterior of the building.... The ARB is electronically connected by a wire to the inside water meter. A special reading gun is used by the meter readers to read the inside meter, without the need to enter the home/business. The reading gun is inserted into the ARB and is given the water consumption reading electronically.... Having the outside "automatic reading box(ARB) accessible at all times to meter reading personnel is vital. This allows the Water Department to bill you based on an actual reading, not an estimated reading.

In practice, it is sensible to work with a spectrometer resolution which is high enough to avoid markedly non-linear calibration curves. This, of course, will increase the required spectrometer scan time, for a given signal/noise ratio in the spectrum, and a compromise may be necessary. In the pressure type air gauge, air passes through a filter and regulator and is then divided into two channels. The air in the reference channel escapes to atmosphere through a zero setting valve. The air in the measuring channel escapes to atmosphere through the gauge head jets. The two channels are connected by an extremely accurate differential pressure meter. The master is placed over the gauging spindle and the zero setting valve is adjusted until the gauge needle indicates zero. Any deviation in the workpiece size from the master size changes the reading.
