The simplest mode of determining exposure with a built-in meter is a match-needle system. In this system the shutter speed is first chosen and then the aperture setting is selected by opening the aperture until a needle in the viewfinder matches the shutter speed. Also useful is an aperture preferred form of semi-automatic exposure control, in which the aperture is chosen to assure depth-of-field. The camera automatically selects the correct shutter speed.

A 2-stage shutter release is a part of many current electronic cameras. Pressing the shutter release halfway activates the autofocus and the light meter of the camera, setting them so as to achieve correct focus and exposure. Holding the release halfway maintains the focusing point and the exposure parameters(AE Lock) and allows for re-composition if desired. Fully pressing the shutter release takes the picture.

In the pressure type air gauge, air passes through a filter and regulator and is then divided into two channels. The air in the reference channel escapes to atmosphere through a zero setting valve. The air in the measuring channel escapes to atmosphere through the gauge head jets. The two channels are connected by an extremely accurate differential pressure meter. The master is placed over the gauging spindle and the zero setting valve is adjusted until the gauge needle indicates zero. Any deviation in the workpiece size from the master size changes the reading.
