METHANE EMISSION [5 records]

Record 1 2021-09-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
  • Animal Husbandry
CONT

In ruminants, methane is produced mostly by enteric fermentation where microbes decompose and ferment plant materials, such as celluloses, fiber, starches, and sugars, in their digestive tract or rumen. Enteric methane is one by‑product of this digestive process and is expelled by the animal through burping.

OBS

enteric CH4: written enteric CH4

PHR

The mandate of the TFBCM is to develop arrangements on actions to achieve enhanced black carbon and methane emission reductions in the Arctic. The Task Force had its first meeting in September 2013 and reported to the Ministerial Meeting in Iqaluit 2015. Canada and Sweden were the co-chairs of TFBCM.

A final implication of EGR [enhanced gas recovery] for coalbed methane is the potential for the creation of zero emission power plants. These power plants would create minimal CO2 emissions based on a full life cycle analysis.... This "closed loop" system could potentially release zero CO2 to the atmosphere during the power cycle and would provide cleaner energy.

CONT

In a micro-plot study in the field, Keerthisinghe et al. 20 found that nitrapyrin and acetylene nitrification inhibitors significantly reduced methane emission in flooded rice. The lowest methane emission rates were observed in the wax-coated calcium carbide treatment. Wax-coated calcium carbide acted as a slow release source of acetylene and produced a sustained effect in reducing methane emissions.
