Buffer Blasting. Buffer blasting is possibly the most simple method of control blasting and involves a modification to the last row of the main blast pattern. Modifications are limited to reduced burden, spacing, and explosive loads. The aim is to limit ground shock from the blast. The method is usually employed in conjunction with some other control blasting technique, such as pre-splitting, and its results are quite economical. Buffer blasting can only be used by itself when the ground is fairly competent. It may produce minor crest fracturing or backbreak but the amount of damage is less than would be produced by the main production blast if no control blasting was used at all. 2, record 9, English, - buffer%20blasting

Chemical treatment of the soil is one of the most promising means to control plant-parasitic nematodes. This control method depends upon bringing the nematode-toxic chemicals into contact with the nematode in sufficiently high concentrations. wheelaborator.... The [castings] are tumbled about in a cabinet on a horizontal belt and at the same time are subjected to bombardment by a stream of metal shot. This latter is maintained by feeding the shot on to the blades of an impeller. The shot are then projected centrifugally at high speed on to the castings. This method is more economical and admits of better control of the abrasive than is possible using air jets. The moving belt must, of course, be well covered with parts to be cleaned, and the impeller blades should preferably be of some hard metal such as high-silicon iron. 3, record 54, English, - shot%20blasting%20machine

5, record 74, French, - centrale%20gyroscopique

The alternatives for nitrogen oxide control are boiler operation changes, combustion equipment modifications to reduce NOx formation, and flue gas treatment.... In the U. S. and Canada, combustion modification(CM) is the most common method of NOx reduction. NOx can be reduced by injecting the combustion air in two stages, normally by reducing air flow to the burner and injecting the remainder through "overfire" air ports in the side of the boiler. Low-NOx burners that accomplish staged conditions within the burner flame have also been developed. Staged combustion... reduces emission by 15-25%. 3, record 77, English, - staged%20combustion

The Centre for Aquatic Plant Management(CAPM) in the United Kingdom is promoting a method of controlling algae that involves the application of barley straw to lakes. As the straw decomposes in the lake, it releases a chemical which inhibits algal growth. This method may be a good alternative to using copper-containing compounds since it is not known to have toxic effects on rooted aquatic plants, zooplankton, insect larvae or fish. It appears to be a cost-effective and environmentally acceptable way to control algae in ponds and lakes. 2, record 79, English, - barley%20straw

As the richer ores of gold (and other metals) are depleted, it is necessary for mining companies to focus on low-grade refractory gold-bearing ores in which the gold is encapsulated in the crystal structure of a sulphide matrix (typically pyrite). These ores cannot be broken down by cyanidation without an oxidative pre-treatment such as nitric acid oxidation, roasting, pressure oxidation or biological oxidation using microorganisms. This new approach to autonomous control is based on the fact that non-linear dynamic systems can be controlled using analytically derived functions. The method hinges on defining an artificial potential field which represents the environment in which the vehicle is to manoeuvre. The potential field is configured to have a global minimum at the desired terminal state of the vehicle and has region of high potential which represents path constraints. This property enables active collision avoidance. Vehicle controls are then chosen such that the rate of descent of the potential field along the vehicle trajectory is always rendered negative definite. According to Lyapunov's theorem, this ensures that the vehicle converges to the desired terminal state without violating pre-defined path constraints. 2, record 94, English, - artificial%20potential%20field

The experience of calibration/validation operations(Cal/Val) during the T/P mission has demonstrated the need to develop sites and ground experiments to control the instrumental drifts, which can occur on space altimeter equipment in-situ and along time.... First of all, precise orbit validations, with the development and the systematic use of a short arc orbit determination method based on laser telemetry data from a regional network... 3, record 98, English, - short%20arc%20orbit%20determination

Planimetric control. Segmentation is sometimes a ground step for correlation which approximates regions by plans, thus we have studied a way to control in 2D the planimetric differences between a reference and a segmentation outline. Various distances have been used for this purpose : Haussdorf distance from segmentation boundaries to reference ones seem to be the most appropriate. A recovering surface quality estimator has been tried and we have computed the ratio between intersection and union with respect to the both areas. This method will be used on many test sites. 1, record 99, English, - planimetric%20control

1, record 99, French, - contr%C3%B4le%20planim%C3%A9trique
