Primary disinfection is the application of a disinfectant in the drinking water treatment plant, with a primary objective to achieve the necessary microbial inactivation. The efficacy of disinfection using chlorine can be predicted based on a knowledge of the residual free chlorine concentration, temperature, pH, and contact time. This relationship is commonly referred to as the CT concept and is used by public drinking water suppliers as one tool for ensuring adequate inactivation of organisms during disinfection. CT is the product of the residual concentration of disinfectant(C), measured in mg/L at the outlet of the contact chamber, and the disinfectant contact time(T), measured in minutes. The CT values required to achieve the necessary inactivation will depend on the microorganism targeted, pH, and temperature. 1, record 1, English, - CT%20concept

4, record 1, French, - crit%C3%A8re%20CT

First-draw samples are taken to provide background information and are used to develop preventive action plans for the building's water distribution. It is not uncommon for first-draw samples to show metals content above the GCDWQ [Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality] Maximum Acceptable Concentration(MAC), which applies only to five-minute draw samples. The first-draw sample results are compared to the five-minute draw MAC to determine the overall condition of the distribution system. Concentrations of chemicals in water are typically measured in units of the mass of chemical(milligrams, mg or micrograms, µg) per volume of water(liter, L, l). Concentrations in water can also be expressed as parts per million(ppm) or parts per billion(ppb).... Occasionally, concentrations of chemicals in water may be written as grams per cubic meter(g/m³). This is the same as grams per 1, 000 liters, which may be converted to milligrams per liter(mg/L). Therefore, 1 g/m³=1 mg/L=1 ppm. 1, record 11, English, - gram%20per%20cubic%20metre
