A form of the Michaelis-Menten equation in which reciprocals of both sides are equated to give the linear form, l/V=(Km/Vmax)(1/(S] + 1/Vmax, where V is the reaction velocity,(S) is the substrate concentration, and Km is the Michaelis-Menten constant. A plot of 1/V(the Y coordinate) as a function of 1/(S)(the X coordinate) is a straight line from which Vmax, the maximal velocity, can be determined from the y-intercept(=1/Vmax) and Km which measures the enzyme-substrate affinity, can be determined from the x-intercept(=-1/Km). 1, record 2, English, - Lineweaver%20%2D%20Burk%20equation
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Several other linearized forms of the Michaelis-Menten equation have been derived :[S)/V)=(1/Vmax)(S) + K(subscript m]/Vmax)(Hanes Plot), and(V)=(-V/(S](Km) +(Vmax)(Eadie-Hofstee Plot). These equations make it possible to calculate Km values from experimental data and are useful in the study of enzyme activation and inhibition. 1, record 2, English, - Lineweaver%20%2D%20Burk%20equation

The number of molecules (or atoms) reacting per unit time. It has been explained by a combination of two theoretical models, the so-called collision theory and the transition state theory.... The collision theory provides a qualitative description of the factors that affect rate and proposes that reactions occur as a result of collisions between the reacting species.... The transition state theory expands upon the collision theory by proposing that an unstable transition state, or activated complex, is formed when reactants collide with the proper orientation and with a collision energy at least equal to the activation energy. 1, record 3, English, - reaction%20rate
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
An important numerical relationship emerges from the Michaelis-Menten equation in the special case when the initial reaction rate is exactly one-half the maximum velocity : we find that the substrate concentration is then equal to the enzyme's Km. 2, record 3, English, - reaction%20rate

1, record 3, French, - vitesse%20de%20r%C3%A9action

In reversible inhibition of enzymes... the inhibitor participates in a rapidly established, easily reversible equilibrium with the enzyme or enzyme-substrate complex, which can be analyzed in terms of the Michaelis-Menten formalism.... The three major types of reversible enzyme inhibition, competitive, uncompetitive, and noncompetitive, can be experimentally distinguished by the effects of the inhibitor on the reaction kinetics of the enzyme, which may be analyzed in terms of the basic Michaelis-Menten rate equation. For valid kinetic analysis the inhibitor must combine rapidly and reversibly with the enzyme or enzyme-substrate complex. 2, record 4, English, - reversible%20inhibition

2, record 4, French, - inhibition%20r%C3%A9versible
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
3, record 4, French, - inhibition%20r%C3%A9versible
