CONT

The core of the instrument is a Michelson interferometer inserted in series within the camera optical design, which modulates the image intensity from total dark to total brightness depending on the optical path difference(OPD) between the two interferometer arms.

Evaluate the forecast skill(up to 15 days) of radiatively coupled ozone and simplified chemistry using MIPAS [Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding] observations. Design for operational assimilation of stratospheric ozone.

Domaine(s)
  • Physique spatiale
CONT

The interest of a ground based Slit Aperture Telescope(SAT) which operates with a long thin pupil has been underlined for applications in the field of high angular resolution observations by speckle-interferometric techniques. The SAT lies halfway between the Michelson stellar interferometer and the standard telescope with circular aperture. The authors present the principle of an image processing algorithm which could be used associated with a space-SAT for astronomical image reconstruction. A full coverage of the two dimensional Fourier plane of the astronomical object can be obtained by rotating the SAT around its optical axis. The method of image reconstruction is analogous to those used in computerized tomography and uses Fast Fourier Transform algorithm. The interest of the use of a rotating space-SAT among synthetic apertures is its capability of giving a reconstructed image of the astronomical object simultaneously in several light wavelengths, each colored image being comparable with the others for fruitful astrophysical applications.

DEF

The radiant flux per unit solid angle per unit of projected area of the source in the atmosphere.

CONT

The atmospheric radiance is collected by the front-end optics(mainly steering mirrors and a telescope) and directed to the Michelson interferometer which allows to measure broadband spectra with a very good spectral resolution. The second input port to the interferometer is closed with a cold blackbody to suppress disturbing radiance.

DEF

Atmos was to have been launched in the mid-1990's with four major Earth observation systems : the Advanced Millimeter Wave Atmospheric Sounder(AMAS), the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Sounding(MIPAS), the Scanning Imaging Absorption Spectrometer for Atmospheric Cartography(SCIAMACHY), and the Reflective Optics Imaging Spectrometer(ROSIS). The first three devices were designed to analyze atmospheric chemistry, whereas the objective of ROSIS was to return moderate and high resolution, multispectral photographs of the Earth's surface.

Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo". The SPCF(Solution Protein Crystal Growth Facility)... can provide opportunities for fundamental study of crystal growth of various solutions and proteins in space. SPCF consists of two major units, the Solution Crystallization Observation Facility(SCOF) and the Protein Crystallization Research Facility(PCRF). The SCOF has a cell cartridge for growing the crystal in solution. The temperature of crystal can be controlled. Moreover the SCOF provides the in-situ observation capability. The SCOF has several observation equipment, the two wavelength Mach-Zehnder interferometer microscope, the Michelson interferometer microscope and the light scattering measurement. They provide the capability to observe the crystallization morphology and the crystal surface and to measure the temperature of the liquid phase, the concentration distribution and the particle size.

CONT

The Solution Crystallization Observation Facility (SCOF) is installed in a 1/4 DR [drawer] space in the JEM [Japanese Experiment Module]. The SCOF consists of the main unit and a removable unit (cell cartridge), which can contain a maxximum of 4 sets of crystal growth cells. The main unit contains various observation apparatus, and various experiments that can be executed by changing the cell cartridges.
