MICROFILM CAMERA [12 records]

Record 1 2012-10-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Micrographics
DEF

In micrographics, a measure of the remoteness of a particular copy from the original material. The picture taken of a document, cathode ray tube, etc., is termed first generation microfilm(camera microfilm or microfiche). Copies made from this first generation are second generation, and copies from the second generation are third generation, etc.

OBS

generation: term and definition officially approved by the Government EDP (Electronic Data Processing) Standards Committee (GESC).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Micrographie
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Micrographics
DEF

A type of microfilm camera that photographs documents while they are being moved by some form of transport mechanism. The document transport mechanism is connected to a film-transport mechanism, and the film also moves during exposure so there is no difference in the rate of relative movement between the film and the image of the document.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Micrographie
DEF

Roll film having sprocket holes accurately located along one or both edges to aid in transporting and positioning the film for successive exposures in a camera. Earlier designs of microfilm cameras utilized the perforations in advancing the film. Since the presence of the perforations substantially reduced the usable area of the film, most contemporary camera designs utilize film-advance mechanisms that do not require perforations in the film.

DEF

Photo-Optical Binary Code Systems: Particularly adaptable to random files, binary code systems depend on an organized code for retrieval, such as an invoice number, customer number or customer name, instead of an external index.

OBS

Photo-optical coding places descriptive data related to documents in photo-optical format on the film. The coding is placed either adjacent to the document frame or along the edge of the film.... The coding is created through a keyboard associated with a microfilm camera or by filming precoded information simultaneously with the document or by COM [computer-output microfilm] with the appropriate software. A search is conducted by keying in the codes. The film code patterns are electronically scanned, and the film stops at the image or images identified by the desired matching codes.
