Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Optical Instruments
  • Metallography
DEF

An optical microscope equipped with a camera for both visual observation and photography of the structure and constitution of a metal or alloy.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments scientifiques
  • Instruments d'optique
  • Métallographie
DEF

CONT

The drawing apparatus does not project an image originating from the microscope, it rather adds an external image, that of the drawing, to the one normally observed in the microscope eyepiece.... The drawing attachment described here fits easily between the binocular tube and the tube support of a Wild compound microscope. It is a tubular piece, protruding horizontally to the left or the right hand of the observer.... Similar "drawing tubes" for camera lucida viewing with stereomicroscopes are also available. Because each ocular in the stereomicroscope produces an image of the specimen from a different angle, both images together give the impression of 3D-vision, but obviously, the drawing picked up from the drawing tube can be superimposed with only one of the two members of the stereopair.

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
CONT

The resolution of an optical imaging system – a microscope, telescope, or camera – can be limited by factors such as imperfections in the lenses or misalignment. However, there is a fundamental maximum to the resolution of any optical system which is due to diffraction. An optical system with the ability to produce images with angular resolution as good as the instrument's theoretical limit is said to be diffraction limited.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Optique
CONT

... the thermionic projection microscope [is] used for measuring the work functions of separate crystal planes. Electrons emitted from the planes are collected on a phosphor screen, and a video camera is used to produce a digitized image of the intensity pattern. Numerical calculations yield the work function associated with each plane.

The clean bench installed in JEM provides a sterilized closed work space for life sciences experiments such as handling of cells, microorganisms, or small plants. This clean bench consists of an operation chamber, a disinfection chamber and a control unit to communicate with JEM system. The operation chamber can be drawn out from the main part of the clean bench to make sufficient working area. The operation chamber contains a phase-contrast microscope that is also used as a fluorescence microscope and a CCD camera for inspection.
