A microscopic examination of cells exfoliated or scraped from a mucosal surface after staining with Papanicolaou’s stain [that is used, among other things, for early cervical cancer screening]. 5, record 1, English, - Pap%20test
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
To perform a Papanicolaou(Pap) test, the doctor scrapes cells from the surface of the cervix with a small wooden applicator much like a tongue depressor. Then, a small bristle brush can be used to obtain a sample of cells from the canal of the cervix. [...] The cells removed [...] are placed on a glass slide, sprayed with a preservative, and sent to the laboratory, where they are examined under a microscope for signs of cervical cancer. 6, record 1, English, - Pap%20test

Papanicolaou smear, Pap smear: Although these terms are sometimes used to refer to the "Pap test," it is preferable to use one of the more precise terms. The "Pap test" includes collecting the cells to produce the "Pap smear," fixing the smear and staining it with the Papanicolaou stain, and examining it under the microscope. 7, record 1, English, - Pap%20test

Analytical ferrography is among the most powerful diagnostic tools in oil analysis. The test is qualitative, because it relies on the skill and knowledge of the ferrographic analyst.... A sample of the machine's lubricating oil is taken and diluted, then run across a glass slide. This glass slide is then placed on a magnetic cylinder that attracts the contaminants. Non-magnetic contaminants remain distributed across the slide from the wash. These contaminants are then washed, to remove excess oil, heated to 315 °C(600 °F) for 2 minutes and the slide is analysed under a microscope. After analysis, the particles will be ranked according to size. Particles larger than 30 μm in size are considered "abnormal" and indicate severe wear. 2, record 3, English, - analytical%20ferrography

In vitro freezing of tissue. Early attempts at studying the effects of speed and final temperature of freezing of tissue slices on cellular damage had difficulty in separating these parameters. Rubinsky and co-workers developed a method of controlled freezing of tissue slices on a microscope slide moving along a temperature gradient between two constant temperature bases. They were able to freeze animal and human liver tissue with a constant cooling rate. Their experiments revealed that high cooling rates will result in intracellular ice formation and probably immediate cell death, representing the clinical situation very close to the cryoprobe. Lower cooling rates resulting in cellular dehydration and extracellular ice formation with large ice crystals propagating along the sinusoids, expanding them by a factor of two in diameter. 1, record 8, English, - final%20temperature%20of%20freezing

LBC is a new method of cervical cell sample preparation. Samples are collected [in a similar way to the standard Pap smear], but using a brush-like device rather than a spatula. The head of the device is rinsed or broken off into a vial of preservative fluid so that most or all of the cervical cells are retained. Samples are transported to the laboratory where they are mixed to disperse the cells. Cellular debris, such as blood or mucus, is removed and a thin layer of cervical cells is deposited on a microscope slide, which is then stained. 2, record 12, English, - liquid%2Dbased%20cytology
