Optical coherence tomography(OCT) is a non-contact imaging technique which generates cross-sectional images of tissue with high resolution. Therefore it is especially valuable in organs, where traditional microscopic tissue diagnosis by means of biopsy is not available—such as the human eye. Since OCT is completely noninvasive, it provides in vivo images without impacting the tissue that is imaged. Fast scanning rates and quick signal processing allows for image visualization in real time and at video rate.... the resolution of OCT is much higher than that of other medical imaging methods like ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). 3, record 3, English, - optical%20coherence%20tomography

The slit lamp examination uses a tool that provides a magnified three-dimensional (3-D) view of the parts of the eye. During the examination, your doctor can look at the front parts of the eye. These parts include the clear, outer covering (cornea), the lens, and coloured part (iris). The doctor can also see the front part of the thick fluid (vitreous gel) that fills the large space in the middle of the eye. Special lenses can be placed between the slit lamp and the cornea (or on the cornea) to help the doctor see deeper structures of the eye. These structures include the optic nerve, the retina, and the area where fluid drains out of the eye (drainage angle). 7, record 4, English, - slit%20lamp%20biomicroscopy

The importance of oceans and the life within them is often understated. Oceans make up 71% of the Earth's surface, and produce 50-80% of the oxygen in the atmosphere... A majority of this oxygen is produced by microscopic free-floating plants, also known as phytoplankton, which account for the majority of bottom trophic level production in most marine ecosystems. A large number of marine food webs are under "bottom-up" control, in which the quantity of primary production controls the abundance of individuals within trophic levels and their biomass. The Arctic marine ecosystem is thought to be under bottom-up control, where primary production is largely limited by advective nutrient supply from adjacent oceans... 2, record 12, English, - lower%20trophic%20level%20production

2, record 37, French, - zone%20de%20protection%20marine%20de%20Tuvaijuittuq

Outlast was developed for NASA and is consistently used in maier sports jackets as the material with automatic air-conditioning. Millions of microscopic PCM(phase change material) capsules store warmth during body activity and distribute them in the rest period. They thus ensure reliable temperature management and prevent large temperature fluctuations in the clothing, even when activity levels or the outside temperature vary. 4, record 51, English, - phase%2Dchange%20microcapsule
Record number: 51, Textual support number: 1 OBS
When the encapsulated PCM [phase change material] is heated to the melting point, it absorbs heat energy as it goes from a solid state to a liquid state. This phase change produces a temporary cooling effect in the clothing layers ... The heat energy may come from the body (e.g. when the wearer first dons the garment) or from a warm environment. Once the PCM has completely melted, the storage of heat stops. If the PCM garment is worn in a cold environment where the temperature is below the PCM’s freezing point, and the fabric temperature drops below this transition temperature, the micro-encapsulated liquid PCM will change back to a solid state, generating heat energy and a temporary warming effect ... The developers claim that this heat exchange produces a buffering effect in clothing, minimizing changes in skin temperature and prolonging the thermal comfort of the wearer. 5, record 51, English, - phase%2Dchange%20microcapsule

Nanolithography is the art and science of etching, writing, or printing at the microscopic level, where the dimensions of characters are on the order of nanometres. This includes various methods of modifying semiconductor chips at the atomic level for the purpose of fabricating integrated circuits(ICs). Instruments used in nanolithography include the scanning tunnelling microscope(STM) and the atomic force microscope(AFM). Both allow surface viewing in fine detail without necessarily modifying it. Either the STM or the AFM can be used to etch, write, or print on a surface in single-atom dimensions. 4, record 84, English, - nanolithography

Endocarditis is characterized by the vegetation, a lesion that results from deposition of platelets and fibrin on the endothelial surface of the heart. Infection is the most common cause, the usual pathogen being one of a variety of bacterial species, microscopic colonies of which are buried beneath the surface of fibrin. However, other types of microorganisms, such as rickettsia, chlamydia, and fungi, may be involved, so that the more general term infective, rather than bacterial, endocarditis is preferred. 2, record 85, English, - infective%20endocarditis

Retroviruses, virion morphology and morphogenesis. The first classification of oncoviruses after their species of origin was based on variations in the electron microscopic appearance of the viral particles associated with different viruses. Four major types of oncovirus particles A to D, are recognized, and the viruses are subdivided by type in accord with their particle morphology. The vast majority of these viruses(such as RSV, MuLV, and HTLV) have C-type morphology. Several primate viruses have been classified as type D; their morphological development is similar to that of B-type particles in that their inner core is assembled in the cytoplasm. However, the mature(budded) D-type particles resemble C-type particles more closely; they are also more closely related genetically to the C-type viruses. 2, record 87, English, - D%2Dtype%20particle

The term microlithotype was developed to permit the designation of rock types within coal that are at a microscopic scale and their definition is based on maceral percentages. All macerals have a suffix "-inite" and microlithotypes have the suffix "-ite. "Thus, layers greater than 0. 05 mm in thickness and consisting of greater than 95% vitrinite are termed vitrite. Bimaceral(clarite, durite and vitrinertite) and trimaceral(duroclarite and clarodurite) microlithotypes have names that are derived from lithotypes rather than macerals. 3, record 92, English, - durite

An early division was into three types : bright coal, dull coal and mineral charcoal(or mother of coal). Another system [divided coal into] four types : fusain, durain, clarain, and vitrain. This coincided with the classification put forward by... the United States Bureau of Mines where coal is divided into anthraxylon-bright layers of plant material and attrius-darker debris material. Today coal classification is based on the organic material seen using different optical microscopic techniques. There are three main groups : liptinite(or exinite), vitrinite and inertinite with many further divisions [within these three groups]. 3, record 93, English, - dull%20coal
