As with larger optical sensors, optical nanosensors can generally be classified into one of two different classes : 1) chemical nanosensors, or 2) nanobiosensors, depending on the type of recognition element(i. e., chemical or biochemical) used to provide specificity to the sensor. Although both of these classes of optical nanosensors are capable of obtaining quantitative measurements in many different microscopic environments, they have found an ideal application in the analysis of chemical and biochemical species present within living cells. Their small sizes allow them to be inserted and precisely positioned within individual cells to obtain spatially localized measurements of chemical species in real time. 1, record 5, English, - chemical%20nanosensor

The highly-efficient and economically-feasible technology for bitumen recovery from US oil sands using a water extraction approach was developed at the end of the last century. This water-based bitumen extraction process has been optimized based on observations and analysis of microscopic mechanisms of bitumen release from oil sands and the bitumen transfer to a froth product as well as measurements of interfacial properties of bitumen. The wetting mechanisms that occur in the diluent-assisted water-based processing of US oil sands include bitumen film rupture and recession on sand grains and bitumen transfer to nucleated and injected gas bubbles. 2, record 7, English, - water%2Dbased%20bitumen%20extraction%20process

Record number: 7, Textual support number: 1 OBS

In the last 10-15 years many analytical advances in X-ray fluorescence analysis(XRF) have taken place, giving rise to non-destructive ultrasensitive surface analyses of materials. One of the variants of XRF developed is micro-XRF(5-XRF), which is able to analyse the distribution of major, minor and trace elements in microscopic sample surface areas. Due to the availability of commercial instrumentation and the development of simple devices for focusing X-rays, 5-XRF has increased in popularity and is able to fill the gap between bulk X-ray fluorescence and electron probe X-ray microanalysis(EPXMA). 1, record 10, English, - microscopic%20x%2Dray%20fluorescence

2, record 10, French, - microfluorescence%20X

Technological developments have made possible extension of the polymerase chain reaction(PCR) analysis to individual cells to localize DNA/RNA with non-radioactive labels at the light microscopic level. This approach, In Situ PCR, is particularly useful in resolving low-frequency message expression in mixed populations of cells and tissues. We have established a working protocol for direct In Situ PCR and have utilized several controls to validate our results. 1, record 13, English, - In%20Situ%20PCR

1, record 14, French, - PCR%20in%20situ%20directe

Dermatitis due to metallic implants in orthopaedic surgery... There is no current means to state positively this diagnosis without removing the implant. The microscopic tissues analysis surrounding the implant and the cutaneous patch-tests using fillings of the implant itself are the only methods which appear able to confirm the diagnosis. 1, record 15, English, - cutaneous%20patch%2Dtest

1, record 15, French, - patch%2Dtest%20cutan%C3%A9
