MICROWAVE AMPLIFIER [5 records]

Record 1 2012-09-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Vacuum Tubes (Electronics)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
DEF

An evacuated electron-beam tube in which an initial velocity modulation imparted to electrons in the beam results subsequently in density modulation of the beam.

OBS

Used as an amplifier in the microwave region or as an oscillator.

OBS

klystron: term officially approved by the Electronics and Telecommunications Terminology Committee.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tubes et lampes (Électronique)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
DEF

Record 2 2011-12-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astrochemistry and Cosmochemistry
  • Electromagnetic Radiation
DEF

A radiation [that] is considered [to be] the remnant of the Big Bang, which cooled down to a temperature of 3 K (-270°C).

CONT

In 1965, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson announced the discovery of microwave radiation which uniformly filled the sky and had a blackbody temperature of about 3. 5 K. The pair had been testing a new radio amplifier that was supposed to be exceptionally quiet.... After many attempts to account for all extraneous sources of radio noise, they came to the conclusion that there was a general background of radiation at the radio frequency they were using. After discussions with a group led by Robert Dicke at nearby Princeton University it became clear that they had in fact detected remnant radiation from the origin of the universe.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Astrochimie et cosmochimie
  • Rayonnements électromagnétiques
CONT

[...] Pour avoir découvert ce rayonnement fossile en 1963, [...] Penzias et Wilson reçurent le prix Nobel.

PHR

Rayonnement cosmique fossile.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microwave Technology (Telecommunications)
  • Satellite Telecommunications
CONT

Power amplifier linearization is employed in a variety of microwave communication systems. It is an effective method that results in significantly higher output power operation for the power amplifier. Without Linearization, system constraints, such as intermodulation noise, spectrum spreading and BER performance, make it necessary to operate the power amplifier in a backed off mode.

  • Amplifiers (Electronics)
DEF

A traveling-wave tube and its associated high-voltage power conditioner. Used as the final power amplifier and sometimes the preceding driver amplifier, in earth station, microwave relay or communication satellite transmitters.(LAURISTON, Andy, et LE NEAL Jocelyne. Dictionnaire bilingue des télécommunications, vol. 2, Équipements de transmission, Transmission Equipment, Montréal, Téléglobe Canada, 1985, p. 183)

French

Domaine(s)
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
  • Amplificateurs (Électronique)
DEF
