Le signal reçu peut être ainsi organisé dans une matrice bi-dimensionnelle, où les paramètres de temps et de distance sont représentés respectivement en ligne par le cadencement des impulsions (PRF) et en colonne par la position des échos sur la ligne, une ligne étant acquise à chaque émission d'une impulsion radar (ou pulse). Une colonne de l'image représentera l'ensemble des réponses des réflecteurs placés à une distance donnée de l'antenne (distance radiale).
