Microwave sensors are particularly effective for measuring land surface hydrological parameters. Since microwave sensors enable us to observe ground surfaces both day and night, we can observe hydrologic phenomena that show remarkable diurnal variation. Further, an inherent feature of a microwave sensor lies in its wavelength between 1 mm and 1 m(0. 3 to 300 GHz of frequency), making it possible to conduct observations without influence from weather and to detect the scattering information not only at the surface, but also in the volume. Furthermore, we can directly observe liquid water having larger relative permittivity than other physical parameters because the scattering of microwaves heavily depends on relative permittivity. There are two types of microwave sensors : a passive microwave sensor that observe weak microwave signals naturally radiated from the Earth's surface, and an active microwave sensor that measures the backscattering coefficient of the transmitted beam. 2, record 4, English, - microwave%20sensor

Traditional methods for acquiring topographic data typically rely on aerial photogrammetry, where measurement of the terrain surface below forest canopy is difficult and error prone. The recent emergence of airborne P-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IFSAR), a high -resolution, microwave remote sensing technology, has the potential to provide significantly more accurate terrain models in forested areas. Low-frequency, P-band radar energy physically penetrates through the vegetation canopy and reflects from the underlying terrain surface, allowing for accurate measurement of the terrain surface elevation even in areas with dense forest cover. 3, record 7, English, - interferometric%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

3, record 10, French, - observation%20SAR

In contrast to semivariance, the Getis statistic (Gi), generates values which relate variations within patterns of spatial dependence. Thus, it has the potential to uncover discrete spatial regimes which might be overlooked by existing techniques. ... Wulder and Boots have adapted the Getis statistic for processing remotely sensed imagery. The Getis statistic yields a standardized value which indicates both the degree of autocorrelation in the values of the digital numbers centered on a given pixel and the magnitude of these values in relation to those of the entire image. The Gi values measure the extent to which a pixel is surrounded by a cluster of high or low values of a particular variable (e.g. DN). Large positive Gi values denote a cluster of high DN values; large negative Gi values indicate the spatial dependence within a tree crown or between shadow elements. High positive values generated from infrared wavelength image data indicate the presence of a tree object whereas high negative values relate a non-tree feature. 4, record 11, English, - Getis%20statistic

Local indicators of spatial autocorrelation. ... As the name implies, this is a method for detecting spatial autocorrelation, typically in group-level data. Local indicators of spatial autocorrelation (LISA) allow for the decomposition of global indicators into the contribution of each individual observation. They detect clustering around a given observation rather than a pre-specified site somewhere in the sampled space. The LISA for each observation gives an indication of the extent of significant spatial clustering of similar values around that observation. The sum of LISAs for all observations is proportional to a global indicator of spatial association. There can be two interpretations of the LISA statistics, as indicators of local spatial clusters and as a diagnostic for outliers with respect to the measure of global association (local instability). 4, record 12, English, - local%20indicator%20of%20spatial%20association

4, record 12, French, - indicateur%20local%20d%27association%20spatiale
