In 1964, Cabinet directed the establishment of an interdepartmental Military Assistance Committee(MAC) to examine requests from non-NATO countries for military assistance and to make recommendations to the Cabinet Committee on External Affairs and Defence... In 1991,... the Military Assistance Committee was then renamed the Military Assistance Steering Committee(MASC). Chaired by the Department of National Defence, the MASC is now composed of regional desk officers from DND's Director General of International Security Policy, representatives from Foreign Affairs Canada and from other departments as needed.
