The United States Military Group (USMILGP) is the Security Assistance Office (SAO) for the Department of Defense.

The MILGP's mission is to effectively manage all security assistance programs to include Foreign Military Sales(FMS), International Military Education and Training(IMET), transfer of Excess Defense Articles(EDA), Foreign Military Financing(FMF), Global Peace Operations Initiative(GPOI) and any other activities involving U. S. military equipment sale, grant or transfer. Additionally, the MILGP is charged with conducting a far-reaching engagement program with the Honduran Armed Forces to include joint exercises, conferences, training, subject matter expert exchanges(SMEEs), and a wide variety of humanitarian assistance and disaster preparedness activities.

On April 27, 2004, Canada's new National Security Policy was unveiled. The Policy announced that there would be an allocation of funds from the International Assistance Envelope to create a Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building(CTCB) Program to be administered by Foreign Affairs Canada. The Program will be managed interdepartmentally to ensure a whole-of-government approach to this assistance. This Program will enable Canada to share our expertise in areas such as border security; transportation security; anti-terrorism financing; legislative drafting, legal policy and human rights and counter-terrorism training; law enforcement, security, military and intelligence training; CBRE terrorism response; and cyber-security and critical infrastructure protection.

In 1964, Cabinet directed the establishment of an interdepartmental Military Assistance Committee(MAC) to examine requests from non-NATO countries for military assistance and to make recommendations to the Cabinet Committee on External Affairs and Defence... In 1991,... the Military Assistance Committee was then renamed the Military Assistance Steering Committee(MASC). Chaired by the Department of National Defence, the MASC is now composed of regional desk officers from DND's Director General of International Security Policy, representatives from Foreign Affairs Canada and from other departments as needed. The committee monitors the efficiency, the relevance, and the delivery of the Military Training Assistance Program(MTAP) to countries approved by the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs within allocated financial parameters.
