DEF

A simple straight or coiled brass or copper small wind instrument with cupped mouthpiece used especially by guards of mail coaches of the 18th and 19th centuries.

CONT

The main differences between a military bugle and a posthorn are their shape and purpose. Coiled in a circle like miniature horn..., the posthorn literally gets its name from its association with the postal service... Posthorns signaled the arrival of mail coaches to secure "unhindered and speedy attention, "... They were also used to alert travelers to road conditions, to alert toll keepers of express mail coaches that required free passage, and to notify innkeepers of passengers in need of lodging. In addition to its primary signal function, the posthorn was used to perform melodies.... To serve this more melodic function, some posthorns were fitted with a single vent hole as well as keys and later, valves.

The International Military Sports Council, known by its acronym "CISM", is an international sports association composed of the armed forces of member nations accepted by the General Assembly. CISM is open to the armed forces of all nations. The aims of CISM are to develop friendly relations between the Armed Forces of member nations, promote physical education and sports activities, provide mutual technical assistance, support less privileged members in the name of friendship and solidarity, contribute towards the balanced and harmonious development of military personnel, and contribute to the international effort for universal peace. On May 1946, the Allied Forces Sports Council was set up, namely by Colonel Debrus and Major Mollet who were among the founding fathers of CISM two years later. Unfortunately, because of political discord, the Allied Forces Sports Council was extinguished in 1947. However, the ideal was rekindled the following year with the founding of CISM and the rise of a global vision.

NMFA has represented the interests and concerns of uniformed services families and has educated policymakers since it was organized in 1969 as the Military Wives Association. The grassroots efforts of this small group of wives and widows, seeking financial security for survivors of uniformed services’ personnel and retirees, resulted in the creation of the Survivor Benefit Plan(SBP). In 1984, the name of the Organization was changed to reflect the broad scope of its involvement in family issues. NMFA has been, and continues to be, in the vanguard of advocacy for quality-of-life issues affecting uniformed services members and their families.
