The actual term "la logistique", translated in English to logistics, was coined from Maréchal Général de Logis(Quatermaster-General) by the foremost military theorist of the first half of the 19th century, Baron Antoine Henri Jomini. Based principally upon his war campaign experiences as a staff officer for Napoleon, Jomini wrote his "Précis de l'art de la guerre"(Summary of the Art of War) in 1836.
