The International Military Sports Council, known by its acronym "CISM", is an international sports association composed of the armed forces of member nations accepted by the General Assembly. CISM is open to the armed forces of all nations. The aims of CISM are to develop friendly relations between the Armed Forces of member nations, promote physical education and sports activities, provide mutual technical assistance, support less privileged members in the name of friendship and solidarity, contribute towards the balanced and harmonious development of military personnel, and contribute to the international effort for universal peace. On May 1946, the Allied Forces Sports Council was set up, namely by Colonel Debrus and Major Mollet who were among the founding fathers of CISM two years later. Unfortunately, because of political discord, the Allied Forces Sports Council was extinguished in 1947. However, the ideal was rekindled the following year with the founding of CISM and the rise of a global vision. 1, record 6, English, - International%20Military%20Sports%20Council

In 1916, Sir Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook, a Canadian who had settled in England, took it upon himself to form a committee that would oversee the creation of an official pictorial record of Canada's effort in the First World War, to be known as the Canadian War Memorials. A similar undertaking was initiated by H. O. McCurry, the director of the National Gallery of Canada from 1939 to 1955, to record the Canadian military presence in the Second World War, resulting in what would be known as the Canadian War Records Collection. A monumental building to house the two war collections, designed by the British architect E. A. Rickards, was also proposed, but the ambitious project was never realized. By 1950 the combined collections from the two wars numbered over 5, 000 works. The majority of them were transferred to the Canadian War Museum in 1971. 2, record 7, English, - Canadian%20War%20Records%20Collection

Borrowing in wartime makes good sense, to cope with the heavy government spending that military action demands.... Taxes went up-but could not rise nearly enough to balance the budget if people were still to be willing to work for the war effort. The price of "tax smoothing" during wartime is big public sector debt burdens, which impose a cost in future years of servicing these debts. 1, record 8, English, - tax%20smoothing

1, record 8, French, - lissage%20des%20imp%C3%B4ts
