The National Military Family Association, Inc.(NMFA)-"The Voice for Military Families" is dedicated to serving the families and survivors of the seven uniformed services through education, information, and advocacy. NMFA has represented the interests and concerns of uniformed services families and has educated policymakers since it was organized in 1969 as the Military Wives Association. The grassroots efforts of this small group of wives and widows, seeking financial security for survivors of uniformed services’ personnel and retirees, resulted in the creation of the Survivor Benefit Plan(SBP). In 1984, the name of the Organization was changed to reflect the broad scope of its involvement in family issues. NMFA has been, and continues to be, in the vanguard of advocacy for quality-of-life issues affecting uniformed services members and their families.
