The Polish Army Veterans Association(PAVA) is an independant, mutual aid organization of former Polish soldiers operating continuously since 1921. It is the oldest institution of this type in the world. The headquarters is located in Manhattan, New York City in the "Polish Veterans Home" that is owned by PAVA District 2, at 119 East 15th Street. Its organizational archives are housed here, as also the Polish Military Heritage Museum founded in 1996. Star City is a highly restricted military facility northeast of Moscow... Chkalovskoye/Airport Chkalovskiy airfield, where cosmonauts have been trained at the Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Centre(GCTC) since the 1960s. In the Soviet era the town was a highly confidential and secured area, isolated from the rest of the world. Today, many Russian cosmonauts live in Star City with their families. In 1916, Sir Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook, a Canadian who had settled in England, took it upon himself to form a committee that would oversee the creation of an official pictorial record of Canada's effort in the First World War, to be known as the Canadian War Memorials. A similar undertaking was initiated by H. O. McCurry, the director of the National Gallery of Canada from 1939 to 1955, to record the Canadian military presence in the Second World War, resulting in what would be known as the Canadian War Records Collection. A monumental building to house the two war collections, designed by the British architect E. A. Rickards, was also proposed, but the ambitious project was never realized. By 1950 the combined collections from the two wars numbered over 5, 000 works. The mission of the CME Museum is to preserve and interpret the CME's heritage and to enchance the sense of identity and esprit de corps of the CME. The Military Engineers’ Museum Association of Canada(MEMAC) is dedicated to the preservation of this history. The museum opened 11 May 1957 at CFB Chilliwack, Vedder Crossing, BC as the Royal Canadian Engineer Museum. Situated in former military barracks, the Museum superbly documents the history of native peoples, Acadians and Loyalists.
