Designer drugs are synthetic psychoactive substances chemically engineered to mimic the effects of traditional illegal drugs, such as cocaine, cannabis, or MDMA [3, 4-methylenedioxymetamphetamine].... The creation of designer drugs involves maintaining a slightly different chemical structure from scheduled substances. This difference in molecular composition is intended to exploit loopholes in drug control laws, allowing the substances to be marketed as "legal highs. " 2, record 1, English, - designer%20drug
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Designer drugs constitute a subset of synthetic drugs: they are produced through the intentional modification of the chemical structure of a controlled substance in order to reproduce its effects while circumventing existing legal frameworks; however, not all synthetic drugs meet the criteria that define a designer drug. 3, record 1, English, - designer%20drug

2, record 1, Spanish, - droga%20de%20dise%C3%B1o

Gyms feature walls with textured paneling or molded shapes that are designed to mimic natural rock surfaces. The walls are outfitted with brightly colored plastic or resin climbing holds that are bolted into the wall to create "routes" or paths for climbing. The walls can be built at nearly any angle from vertical to overhanging, allowing for routes and climbing experiences that challenge all abilities. Most gyms have walls dedicated to top-rope climbing, lead climbing, and bouldering. 4, record 16, English, - climbing%20gym

Presyncope or near-syncope is often ill-defined and may have different meanings to different providers but denotes near fainting or a prodrome of syncope. The most uniform definition is ’’feeling like one was going to pass out but without actual loss of consciousness. ’’Near syncope can last for seconds to minutes. Symptoms may be accompanied by a feeling of lightheadedness, general weakness, warmth, diaphoresis, nausea, palpitations or blurry vision. Although often perceived as more benign than syncope, data suggest that both the pathophysiology(cerebral hypoperfusion) and outcomes of near syncope mimic those of syncope. 6, record 18, English, - presyncope

Both xylazine and fentanyl are psychoactive and add to the effects that a user experiences. Fentanyl is a short-acting drug and the addition of xylazine extends the resulting feeling of euphoria to mimic the effects of heroin. However, many users are unaware that the heroin is adulterated(or "cut") with these other substances, and this can lead to unintended side effects and even overdose. For example, when xylazine is injected it can cause open wounds such as skin ulcers and abscesses to form. With long-term use, these lesions can become widespread across the arms and legs causing tissue death, hence its nickname : the zombie drug. 3, record 19, English, - tranq%20dope

1, record 19, French, - drogue%20du%20zombie

Their dimensions were 61. 0 cm x 91. 5 cm x 15. 0 cm in height, for a surface area of 0. 55 m². The inside of the bio-collector was lined with 2 mm rugged plastic mesh... to retain lobsters, crabs and other small organisms during retrieval. 2, record 23, English, - bio%2Dcollector

Recently developed techniques of organic synthesis and polymer chemistry [now permit] to synthesize catalysts having enzyme-like activities ... sometimes called " synzymes" ... It seems most likely ... that enzyme mimics (analogues) will need a large complex structure, ... as well as any portions of degraded or part-synthesized enzymes which one might hope would retain (or exhibit) particular catalytic ability. The hope derives from the finding that some complex enzymes display more than one catalytic ability, and have different domains with characteristic active sites with specificity for particular substrates and conversions.... Consideration of the development of "synzymes" leads immediately to the question of feasibility at reasonable cost in a reasonable time period. One obvious question is how faithfully must the structure of the enzyme active center be duplicated? 2, record 35, English, - synzyme

There is growing interest in synthetic catalysts that mimic enzymes. Bioorganic chemists study enzyme models with the hope that results of their investigations will aid in the understanding of enzyme mechanism. 1, record 35, French, - enzyme%20artificielle

In 1983, physicians at National Jewish reported a new condition that may mimic asthma. This condition is called Vocal Cord Dysfunction, or VCD. VCD causes asthma-like symptoms because of an abnormal closing of the vocal cords. VCD can cause difficulty breathing and even wheezing. Based on these symptoms, many people with VCD may be diagnosed with asthma and treated with asthma medications, including oral steroids... Common symptoms include a chronic cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, throat tightness, "difficulty getting air in", hoarseness and wheezing... A specific breathing test called a flow volume loop, can be helpful in showing VCD, especially on the "breathing in" or inspiratory part of the loop. 1, record 48, English, - vocal%20cord%20dysfunction

Among the alkaloids produced by grass endophytes, the best known are ergot alkaloids because they are also produced by related fungi known for major poisoning events throughout history. The ergot alkaloids are so named because they are made by ergot fungi; that is, Claviceps species. "Ergots" are hard, dense resting structures of these fungi that typically replace the reproductive structures of Claviceps-infected grass florets. Ergots mimic the size, shape, and density of the seeds, so with traditional winnowing they tend to be retained in the grain rather than being removed with the chaff. 2, record 54, English, - ergot%20alkaloid

Building Related Illness(BRI)... refers to a defined illness with a known causative agent resulting from exposure to the building air. While the causative agent can be chemical(e. g., formaldehyde), it is often biological. Typical sources of biological contaminants are humidification systems, cooling towers, drain pans or filters, other wet surfaces, or water damaged building material. Symptoms may be specific or mimic symptoms commonly associated with the flu, including fever, chills, and cough. Serious lung and respiratory conditions can occur. Legionnaires’ disease, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and humidifier fever are common examples of building related illness. 7, record 58, English, - building%2Drelated%20illness

Although the innervating central neurons are not present in the cell culture, we are able to mimic their excitatory effect on the ganglionic neurons... This was done by raising the potassium concentration of the medium, by adding the drug veratridine, which causes an influx of sodium ions into the neurons, or by stimulating the cells electrically once per second for many days. 2, record 71, English, - veratridine

There are two major limitations for the transferred monolayer systems :(1) Thermodynamic instability renders them suffering from lack of long-term durability;(2) the transferring methods require the supporting substrates to be planar, which will not provide large enough surface area for many important applications, such as enzymatic catalysis. Thus, direct graft of phospholipids to solid substrate to form a highly packed monolayer holds great promise in biomembrane mimetic applications. A method, first reported by Pidgeon and Venkataram to bond covalently phospholipids on a silica gel surface for chromatography applications, has greatly inspired our interest in further developing a stable and robust self-assembled lipid monolayer on solid surfaces to mimic the functionality of biomembranes, especially the surface activation of membrane-bound enzymes by the lipid self-assembled monolayers. 2, record 72, English, - lipid%20monolayer%20on%20silica%20gel

The representation of domain expertise in a computer can be in one of two forms. One form is as a "glass-box" or articulate model... The model is referred to as "articulate" because each problem-solving decision it makes can... be explained in terms that match... those of a human problem-solver. In contrast to the articulate expert is the "black-box" expert, which has data structures and processing algorithms that do not mimic those used by human beings. 6, record 85, English, - articulate%20expert
