MINE PUMP [4 records]

Record 1 2017-01-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Technology - Equipment
CONT

The bitumen extraction processes initially used by GCOS [Great Canadian Oil Sands] and Syncrude were based on the Hot Water Extraction Method... Oil sands ore is moved from the base mine dump pocket by conveyor and enters large rotating tumblers where the ore is slurried... to condition it for bitumen separation. The aerated slurry from the tumblers discharges into vibrating screens where large materials... are rejected. The slurry is diluted in pump boxes and pumped to the Primary Separation Vessels(PSV), where bitumen rises to the surface as a froth and is skimmed off, while the sand settles to the bottom.

OBS

primary separation vessel: term usually used in the plural.

Key term(s)
  • primary separation vessels

French

Domaine(s)
  • Appareillage (Technologie pétrolière)
CONT

OBS

séparateur primaire : terme habituellement utilisé au pluriel.

Key term(s)
  • séparateurs primaires

Oil sands ore is moved from the base mine dump pocket by conveyor and enters large rotating tumblers where the ore is slurried by steam, hot water... and caustic soda to condition it for bitumen separation. The aerated slurry from the tumblers discharges onto vibrating screens where large materials such as rocks and lumps of clay are rejected. The slurry is diluted in pump boxes and pumped to the Primary Separation Vessels(PSV)...

DEF

A prop consisting of two telescoping steel cylinders which are extended by hydraulic pressure which may be provided by a hand-operated pump built into the prop. The prop holds about half a gallon of mineral oil and is fitted with a yield valve which relieves the pressure when the load exceeds that for which the prop is set. An hydraulic prop enables quicker setting, uniform initial loading and it can be withdrawn from a remote, safe position. The year 1947 saw the first hydraulic prop in a British coal mine-today there are more than one million in use.

Domaine(s)
  • Outillage et équipement (Exploitation minière)
CONT

Record 4 1982-08-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cofferdams and Dewatering (Construction)
OBS

An important class of cofferdams are those built on land; they are probably more numerous than those located in bodies of water. A few of the structures that often require land cofferdams are buildings, subways, sewers, pump wells, upper portions of mine shafts, pits for large machine foundations, and approach piers for bridges.

Domaine(s)
  • Épuisements et batardeaux (Construction)
OBS
