CONT

Land mines are a fundamental impediment to post-conflict reconstruction and development. Yet, mine action programs which focus narrowly on eliminating or limiting the devastating impacts of these weapons, risk over looking the complex peace building and developmental needs of countries infected by land mines. To be effective, mine action programs require a greater understanding of the socio-economic impacts of land mines as well as a longer-term and coordinated strategy among key actors working in this field. To date, MAP has concentrated on improving the effectiveness of mine action research and policy in Southern Africa, especially in Angola and Mozambique. International Development Research Centre.

CONT
