When a tree seed germinates, the first(primary) root grows down in the soil in response to gravity. Secondary roots then branch off horizontally, with subsequent branching into tertiary roots, etc. Absorption of water and mineral nutrients is the function of the very fine, non-woody roots(the feeder roots). With continued growth, each root will lose its ability for absorption. These larger woody roots then function as the transport system for water and nutrients from the new feeder roots to the stem. They are also the tree's system of anchorage and a food storage area. The resulting system thus consists of several main transport roots that extend radically and horizontally from the tree base and divide into ever smaller roots, each ending in a dense mass of fine feeder roots. 2, record 27, English, - feeder%20roots

With the rise in urban population comes a demand for solutions to offset environmental problems caused by urbanization. Green infrastructure(GI) refers to engineered features that provide multi-ecological functions in urban spaces. Soils are a fundamental component of GI, playing key roles in supporting plant growth, infiltration, and biological activities that contribute to maintenance of air and water quality. However, urban soils are often physically, chemically or biologically unsuitable for use in GI features. Constructed technosols(CT), consisting of mixtures of organic and mineral waste, are man-made soils designed to meet specific requirements and have great potential for use in GI. 2, record 35, English, - constructed%20technosol

Agricultural production is dependent, in part, on the cycling of nitrogen within the rural environment.... Before nitrogen can be used by plants, it must be converted into forms that are available to plants; this conversion is called mineralization. The plants take up these mineral forms through their root systems and form plant proteins and other organic forms of nitrogen. Livestock eat crops and produce manure, which is returned to the soil, adding organic and mineral forms of nitrogen to the soil, which can be used again by the next crop. 2, record 39, English, - return%20to%20soil

This paper presents a cooperative, multi-robot solution for searching, excavating, and transporting mineral resources on the Moon.... Our results demonstrate the potential of using autonomous robots for autonomous in-situ resource utilization(ISRU) on the Moon.... To fulfill the mission requirements, a heterogeneous team of up to six rovers could be selected from three types of rovers : scout, hauler, and excavator... Each rover had unique capabilities to assist in the lunar ISRU mission task. The scout rover was equipped with a sensor package to detect volatile resources of different types underground. The excavator rover included a 4 degrees of freedom robotic arm with a bucket end-effector to collect the resources. The hauler rover included a truck bed to transport the resources to the processing plant. 1, record 43, English, - hauler%20rover

The procedure is based on the principle that two digital radiographic images obtained under different time intervals, with the same projection geometry, are spatially and densitometrically aligned using specific software. When the two images are registered and intensities of corresponding pixels are subtracted of the gray scale values, a uniform difference image is produced, resulting in a new image representing the differences between the two, called the subtraction image. In this new image, if there is a change in the radiographic attenuation between the baseline and follow-up examination, all the anatomical structures that do not change between radiographs are shown as neutral gray background, while regions that had mineral loss or gain are shown as a darker or brighter area, respectively... 1, record 46, English, - digital%20subtraction%20radiography

The sponge and dough method is employed primarily by wholesale bakeries... In this method a sponge consisting of part of the flour(usually 65 to 70% of the total flour) is mixed first. All the yeast, all the mineral yeast food, and enough water to make a stiff mixture are incorporated in the sponge, which is then fermented for about four to five hours. The sponge is returned to the mixer, where the rest of the flour, water, and all additional ingredients are added and mixed to proper development... After mixing is completed, the dough is fermented for about 20 minutes. 1, record 55, English, - sponge%20and%20dough%20method
