The registration schemes briefly are : 1) image motion compensation(IMC) and 2) mirror motion compensation(MMC). The IMC removes spacecraft orbit and attitude motion from each image. The MMC automatically corrects for the predictable effects of the instrument mirror motions.

Twin lens reflex cameras have two lenses... The upper or "viewing" lens reflects off a fixed mirror and forms an image on a ground glass screen on top of the camera. The lower lens is the one which takes the photograph, and is fitted with a shutter and diaphragm. To use... look down onto the focusing screen to see what you are photographing. Turning the focusing knob moves both lenses backwards and forwards, so when your subject is sharply imaged on the ground glass the taking lens is also focused to give a sharp image on film.

An instrument located at the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory on Mount Hopkins, Arizona, at an altitude of 2, 606 m(8, 550 ft). It employed six mirrors, each 1. 82 m(72 in.) across, working together to give the equivalent of a single mirror 4. 45 m(176 in.) in aperture. In 1998, the MMT was used in a pioneering demonstration of nulling interferometry to image the dust cloud around Betelgeuse. Following this, the telescope was closed and work began to upgrade it by replacing the 6 small mirrors with a single mirror 6. 5 m in diameter.

The Orlan spacesuit was used for Russian EVA's on Salyut, Mir, and the International Space Station. It was designed by the Zvezda OKB [Russia : Experimental Design Bureau], and derived from the Kretchet suit intended for use on the lunar surface. It consisted of flexible limbs attached to a one-piece rigid body/helmet unit. The suit was entered through a hatch in the rear of the torso. Control of the suit was via a panel on the chest, with the markings in mirror image. The cosmonaut viewed the panel using a mirror on the wrist of the suit.

The performance of large, ground-based optical telescopes is limited by the quality of the image that can be delivered to the final detector(or camera). The telescope and its protective dome create atmospheric variations due to thermal mismatch with the local environment. This "dome seeing" effect reduces performance because it results in a blurring of the incoming image. This effect can be minimized by allowing bulk airflow across the mirror, but this comes at the price of wind buffeting of the structure, which also reduces performance.
