MIRROR PRINCIPLE [7 records]

Record 1 2014-02-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • PAJLO
  • Property Law (common law)
OBS

Consideration must be given to, first of all, the rights and interests involved, i.e., chain of ownership, when real property is affected by a body of water; and, secondly, the physical location on the ground of the extent of such rights and interests, i.e., extent of ownership. [Lamont, "Real Estate Conveyancing," 1976, p. 559].

CONT

Under the "Land Titles Act" the chain of ownership is guaranteed by the Assurance Fund to be correct and under the mirror principle, is deemed to reflect the true existing state of the ownership. The extent of ownership, however, is not guaranteed under the "Land Titles Act, "and in final analysis the extent of lands guaranteed is controlled by the field monuments themselves. [Lamont, "Real Estate Conveyancing", 1976, p. 554].

English

Subject field(s)
  • PAJLO
  • Property Law (common law)
CONT

The mirror principle... involves the proposition that the register of title is a mirror which reflects accurately and completely and beyond all argument the current facts that are material to title.(Rowton Simpson, 1976, p. 22).

CONT

The insurance principle... is that, if through human frailty(in the Registry), the mirror fails to give an absolutely correct reflection of the title and a flaw appears, anyone who thereby suffers loss must be put in the same position, so far as money can do it, as if the reflection were a true one.(Simpson, p. 22)

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
CONT

Modern technology makes of practical astronomical use an old theoretical curiosity : that a spinning liquid surface can, in principle, be used as the primary mirror of a telescope. Liquid mirrors have two main advantages over conventional glass mirrors : they are considerably cheaper, and it should be possible to build them to much larger diameters.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Optique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Space Exploration Equipment and Tools
  • Spacecraft
CONT

The above deck equipment is usually some form of tracking dish, with a circular polarized feed arrangement. This usually takes the form of an helical antenna, wound with left-hand circular polarization. The signal from the satellite is right-hand circular polarization, but since the signal is reflected by the dish, polarization sense is reversed. This is the same principle as if you were to look in a mirror; your image is reversed.

CONT

The trick mirror uses the same principle as a digital watch. A thin film sandwiched between two plates of glass either passes light or reflects it, depending on the polarity of a current passing through a liquid.
