MISSILE SEEKER RADAR [7 records]

Record 1 2011-08-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Sea Operations (Military)
CONT

Seduction is used when the missile has achieved radar lock on the ship. These decoys use rapid blooming chaff, which, when deployed at optimum locations, create huge "targets" that should attract the missile seeker and deflect it away from the ship.

Record 2 2006-08-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Missiles and Rockets
CONT

The target seeker receives and interprets the radar energy reflected from the target. Then it produces signals that are sent to the flight control section to direct the missile to intercept the target or come within lethal range of it.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Missiles and Rockets
CONT

A TV Seeker(or optical seeker) and a Millimetric Seeker(a type of radar) make images of the space ahead of them and pick out their own targets. Although these do not give very high accuracy they allow the missile to intelligently select the target type to go for(as pre programmed by the launching platform).

[The AIM-9G missile] closely resembled the -9D but employed SEAM (Sidewinder Expanded Acquisition Mode) electronics, while the [AIM-9H], a US Navy weapon, was basically a solid-state version of the -9G.

OBS

The AIM-9J introduced the Sidewinder Expanded Acquisition Mode(SEAM), which slaved the seeker head of the missile to the curcraft's radar when in "dayfight" mode, which enable the AIM-9J seeker head to be uncaged, slewed toward a specific target by the aircraft radar, and made to track only that particular target before being launched.

CONT

The Motorola AIM-9C [missile] was an early attempt to give Sidewinder all-weather performance by installing a semi-active radar seeker in place of the normal infra-red head and by adopting a new motor, thereby increasing the weapon's maximum range.

OBS
