Space weaponization is a subset of space militarization. If one envisions a natural sequence ranging from space systems not being used for any militarily useful purposes at all, to satellites providing services to support terrestrial military operations..., to satellites being integral parts of terrestrial weapon systems..., and finally to weapons themselves being deployed in space, weaponization occurs when the upper range of this sequence is reached. At its most extreme, space weaponization would include the deployment in quantity of a full range of space weapons, including satellite-based systems for ballistic missile defense(BMD), ground-and space-based anti-satellite weapons(ASATs), and a variety of space-to-Earth weapons(STEW), and these would play a central role in any type of military operations conducted by their owners.

The primary distinction between RF weapons and more conventional EW systems is that RF weapons actually affect the electronics and not just the electronic environment, thereby causing temporary or permanent electronics failure that persists even after the RF beam has been turned off. All the functions necessary to fire the missile are performed by the MP, which measures only 42X51X43 cm. This solid-state, combined analog and digital computer supplies pre-launch power to Lance from a 19-cell, 24v dc(direct current) Ni-Cad(Nickel-Cadmium) battery, it inserts range information into the missile guidance set before launch, controls the missile's safe, arming and firing mechanisms, and monitors the firing sequence.

The tube-launched, optically-tracked, wire-guided(TOW) missile system is the primary long range anti-tank weapon for the army. Although normally vehicle mounted it can be carried short distances by the weapon crew. When mounted in a vehicle, the system consists of the launcher, sight unit, missile guidance set and the TOW encased missiles. The addition of the tripod and traverse and elevation units allows the system to be removed from the vehicle and operated from a remote location by the weapon crew. The TOW has a thermal image capability that allows the gunner to see through total darkness, rain, fog and smoke.

The format of what would become the Shearwater International Air Show or SIAS began to crystallize in 1981. Obviously, it could not compete with bigger shows playing to larger population centres. So, if the biggest was not possible, SIAS aimed to be the best. The show's search for excellence was rewarded by many successes; air displays equaling any in the country and over 75 different static aircraft from as many as seven countries. In addition, over 80 high-quality ground exhibits were displayed, including such as an Iraqi Scud missile and the weapon which brought it down, the US Army's Patriot System. Efforts to raise the Nova Scotia International Air Show(NSIAS) from the ashes were unsuccessful in 1996, but a few dedicated believers took on the task to try again for 1997 and were more than rewarded for their efforts. NSIAS 97 was a co-production of the three levels of government, the private sector and the military in the Atlantic Region. A lot of hard work, negotiations and good will produced a first class show that had all the trade marks of past SIAS events and then some. With a superb two-day attendance and an overall economic impact exceeding 14 million dollars, Shearwater and Nova Scotia were clearly on the air show map.

The missile, called Wasp because it would be launched in swarms of 10 or more, will allow an attacking aircraft to withdraw before exposing itself to heavy enemy air defenses. To date, the accelerometer design of choice for strategic missiles has been the Pendulous Integrating Gyroscopic Accelerometer(PIGA) instrument, an accelerometer whose origins trace back to the German V2 rocket, and has been refined through several generations of development to achieve unsurpassed performance.

A new air-launched missile will be the first weapon ever with a built-in ability to seek out and destroy enemy armor. The missile, called Wasp because it would be launched in swarms of 10 or more, will allow an attacking aircraft to withdraw before exposing itself to heavy enemy air defenses. Initially it will be programmed to fly to a target area. A terminal guidance seeker then will take over, identifying the armor and steering the missile to an individual target.
