CONT

Buffer Blasting. Buffer blasting is possibly the most simple method of control blasting and involves a modification to the last row of the main blast pattern. Modifications are limited to reduced burden, spacing, and explosive loads. The aim is to limit ground shock from the blast. The method is usually employed in conjunction with some other control blasting technique, such as pre-splitting, and its results are quite economical. Buffer blasting can only be used by itself when the ground is fairly competent. It may produce minor crest fracturing or backbreak but the amount of damage is less than would be produced by the main production blast if no control blasting was used at all.

OBS

control blasting: Various techniques used to limit the amount of backbreak developed during the blasting phase of the excavation cycle by reducing the level of ground shock vibrations.

CONT

DEF

A behaviour modification technique in which one do not pay attention to a child's inappropriate behaviour.

CONT

Selective ignoring occurs when you ignore the small undesirable behaviors and concentrate on the larger ones. Small undesirable behaviors are behaviors that are annoying but do not harm humans, animals, property, or don’t lead to larger ones. They are childish irresponsibilities that will self-correct with time and maturity.

DEF

A behaviour modification technique that provides positive attention to reinforce a child's appropriate behaviour.

CONT

During the CDI [Child Directed Interaction] didactic [session], the parents are taught to use differential reinforcement to modify child behavior by providing positive attention for appropriate behavior (e.g., playing gently with the toys) and withdrawing attention for inappropriate behavior (e.g., throwing toys across the room). In PCIT [Parent-Child Interaction Therapy], these skills are referred to as strategic attention and selective ignoring.

CONT

The present work aims at trying out Acoustic Impact Technique as a possible means of deployment at field level for the purpose of flaw detection in composite helicopter blades. The principle underlying Acoustic Impact Testing is simple. The sound produced when a structure is tapped is mainly at the frequencies of major structural modes of vibration, which are structural properties. Any difference in the sound is necessarily due to modification affected to the force input by the defect in the structure. A study of the force time history of response or its fast fourier transform makes it possible to locate and detect sub surface flaws.

CONT

Film Quality. The film flexibility of oil paint has several consequences. Oil paint can be used on flexible supports such as canvas, whereas the more brittle films of the older paints require a rigid support, such as a wood panel or a plaster wall... Because of the oil' s flexibility, heavier applications of oil paint do not crack, as do egg tempera or distemper colors. Therefore a greater range of textural effects, from thick to thin and from rough to smooth, becomes possible in the oil technique. The film flexibility of oil paint allows the building up of layers of paint, one over the other, permitting the artist to paint over parts of the picture, adding further subtlety or unifying the disparate elements in the painting. Oil paintings can become more complex than can pictures painted in older techniques, as the artist adds layer on layer of compositional modification.

OBS

film: A layer or coat of paint or other material applied to the surface. The layer remaining after the paint has dried is often called the dried film.

The separation of e.g., biomass oils or coal fluids through the use of a solvent sequence followed by an analysis by chromatography.

CONT

Farcasiu had already developed SESC (sequential elution by solvents-chromatography) for separating coal fluids into distinct chemical classes. The method seemed even better suited for the separation of biomass oils which, unlike coal products, have no nitrogenous fraction to deal with....

OBS

The original SESC technique required only slight modification for the purpose at hand. Since wood oil is virtually devoid of aliphatic hydrocarbons, the first step, elution with hexane, was omitted. Whatever amount of this fraction, F1, does exist is eluted along with the aromatic hydrocarbons by 15% benzene-hexane in the present technique. This hydrocarbon fraction is designated F1, 2. Also, we have found acetic acid to be superior to pyridine for removing the last wood oil residues from the column.
